The Guillotine 2024 Boys Academic All-State Wrestlers

The 2024 edition of The Guillotine Boys Academic All-State honorees features 30 first-team members, 30 second-team members, 30 third-team members, and 62 honorable mention wrestlers.

One hundred fifty-six total wrestlers, representing 73 teams, were submitted this season. Points were tallied based on current season varsity wins, current season state tournament placement, and cumulative high school GPA.

Everyone on the first team placed fourth or higher at state this year, including 16 champions and nine runners-up. First-team members have an average of 47.8 season wins, an average season win percentage of 94%, and an average GPA of 3.89.

Twelve wrestlers submitted have a perfect 4.0 GPA: Andrew Bonk of South St. Paul, Micah Gregory of Trinity School at River Ridge, Beau Hudoba of Ogilvie, Ethan Lane of Thief River Falls, Jack Major of Rocori, Andrew Marty of MAHACA, Zak McPhee of Proctor/Hermantown, Cael Olson of Delano, Matt Randolph of Scott West, David Revering of Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie, Will Sather of Eden Prairie, and Reed Sommer of Kenyon-Wanamingo.

Five honorees finished as undefeated 2024 state champions: Bryce Burkett of Watertown-Mayer, Maximus Hanson of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Zak McPhee of Proctor/Hermantown, Quinlan Morgan of Mounds View, and Landon Robideau of St. Michael-Albertville.

Repeat Guillotine first-team members are Nolan Ambrose of Jackson County Central, Devin Carter of Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, Austin Grzywinski of Simley, Maximus Hanson of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, Drew Lange of Holdingford, Kaleb Lochner of Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Griffin Lundeen of Thief River Falls, Zak McPhee of Proctor/Hermantown, Michael Olson of Albert Lea Area, Cash Raymond of Simley, Will Sather of Eden Prairie, and Logan Swensen of Wayzata.

First Team

Jackson County Central Nolan Ambrose

Nolan Ambrose, 145 pounds
Jackson County Central, 12th

Nolan is a four-time state champion. He won the Class A 145-pound title this year, the 132-pound title as a junior, the 113-pound title as a sophomore, and the 106-pound title as a freshman. Nolan had an impressive season record of 57-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 212-26, including 142 pins. Nolan’s GPA is 3.81. Honors and achievements include four-time all-conference, team captain, Student of the Month, 2024 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award for Minnesota, 2024 Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State, and 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team. Nolan is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle at Augustana University. Nolan’s parents are Jeremy and Kassie, and his coach is Nate Hanson.


Chisago Lakes Logan Bender

Logan Bender, 285 pounds
Chisago Lakes, 11th

Logan is a state champion and a two-time placewinner. He won the Class AA 285-pound title in 2024 as a junior. Logan placed sixth at 195 pounds as a sophomore and was a state qualifier at 195 pounds as a freshman. Logan had an impressive season record of 37-1. His current career record is 116-30, including 85 pins. Logan’s GPA is 3.72. Honors and achievements include becoming a 2024 USA Wrestling Junior Folkstyle All-American. Future plans are to compete at a four-year college, major in psychology, and pursue CTE research. Logan’s parents are Larry and Tanika, and his coach is Bryan Nelson.


Pipestone Area Brayden Burmeister

Brayden Burmeister, 127 pounds
Pipestone Area, 12th

Brayden is a three-time state qualifier and one-time placewinner. Brayden had a season record of 41-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 136-29, including 86 pins. Brayden’s GPA is 3.97. Honors and achievements include four-time letter winner, team captain, two-time Team OW, four-time all-conference, and 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State third team. Future plans are to possibly wrestle at Augie or Luther, or attend South Dakota State and not wrestle. Brayden plans to study something in the medical or engineering fields. After college, he hopes to move to northern Minnesota. Brayden’s parents are Dustin and Shannon, and his coach is Brian Bos.


Tracy Milroy Balaton Devin Carter

Devin Carter, 127 pounds

Devin is a state champion and three-time finalist. He was the Class A 127-pound runner-up this year as a senior. Devin won the title at 126 pounds as a junior. He was a runner-up at 120 pounds as a sophomore and a state qualifier at 113 pounds as a freshman. Devin had a season record of 39-5. He ended his high school career with a record of 218-61, including 105 pins. Devin’s GPA is 3.95. Honors and achievements include Redwood River Riot Champion in 2022 and runner-up in 2023, 2024 Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State, and 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team. Future plans are to wrestle at Southwest Minnesota State University. Devin’s parents are Steve and Lindsey, and his coach is Karl Campbell.


New Prague Lawson Eller

Lawson Eller, 121 pounds
New Prague, 11th

Lawson is a state champion and three-time finalist. He won the 106-pound Class AAA title as a sophomore in 2023. Lawson was runner-up at 121 pounds in 2024 as a junior and was runner-up at 106 pounds as a freshman. Lawson had a season record of 48-4. His current career record is 155-25, including 81 pins. Lawson’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include three-time Metro West Conference All-Conference, 2022 Rumble on the Red Tournament champion, 2021 Fargo Freestyle and Greco All-American, 2022 USA Wrestling Folkstyle All-American, 2022 and 2023 Fargo Greco All-American, and 2024 Section 2AAA All-Academic Award winner. Future plans are to continue his wrestling career in college. Lawson’s parents are Brad and Jen, and his coach is Dan Wagner.


Kenyon Wanamingo Will Van Epps

Will Van Epps, 215 pounds
Kenyon-Wanamingo, 12th

Will is a state champion and a two-time placewinner. He won the 215-pound Class A title this year and placed fifth at 220 pounds as a junior. Will had an impressive season record of 44-2. He ended his high school career with a record of 120-28, including 66 pins. Will’s GPA is 3.87. Honors and achievements include Region 1 Triple ‘A’ Award winner, most wins and pins on the team this year, and Gopher Conference Wrestler of the Year. Will is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to play baseball at Minnesota State University Mankato. Will’s parents are Scott and Sarah, and his coach is Nathan Lexvold.


Simley Austin Grzywinski

Austin Grzywinski, 114 pounds
Simley, 12th

Austin is a state champion and two-time finalist. He won the Class AA 114-pound title this year as a senior. Austin was runner-up at 106 pounds as a junior and he was a state qualifier at 106 pounds as a sophomore. Austin had a season record of 44-5. He ended his high school career with a record of 130-25, including 63 pins. Austin’s GPA is 3.94. Honors and achievements include Minnesota Christmas Tournament finalist in 2023 and third place in 2022. Future plans are to wrestle at St. Cloud State University. Austin’s parents are Cassie Emms and Andrew Grzywinski, and his coach is Will Short.


Dawson Boyd Lac Qui Parle Montevideo United Daniel Gunlogson

Daniel Gunlogson, 139 pounds

Daniel is a two-time state placewinner. He finished third at 139 pounds in 2024 in Class AA as a senior and was third at 113 pounds as a sophomore. He was a state qualifier at 126 pounds as a junior. Daniel had an impressive season record of 56-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 199-33, including 117 pins. Daniel’s GPA is 3.99. Honors and achievements include two-time Redwood River Riot finalist, Rumble on the Red finalist, and Minnesota Ninth Grade and Under League state champion. Future plans are to wrestle at the University of Chicago. Daniel’s parents are Sam and Jennie, and his coach is Hank Ireland.


Belgrade Brooten Elrosa Maximus Hanson

Maximus Hanson, 172 pounds
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, 12th

Maximus is a two-time state champion and a three-time placewinner. He won the Class A 172-pound title in 2024 as a senior and the 170-pound title as a junior. He placed fifth at 160 pounds as a sophomore and qualified at 152 pounds as a freshman. Maximus finished his season undefeated with 54 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 217-47, including 124 pins. Maximus’ GPA is 3.7. Honors and achievements include 2019 to 2024 Central Minnesota Conference All-Conference First Team or Honorable Mention, 2022 Fargo All-American (7th place), 2023 Northern Plains Regional Championship runner-up, 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team, 2024 Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State, and two-year team captain. Future plans are to wrestle for Augsburg University and study Physical Education and Adapted PE. He also hopes to coach a wrestling team in the future. Maximus’ parents are Craig and Julie, and his coach is Jordan Fester.


Totino Grace Cy Kruse

Cy Kruse, 215 pounds
Totino-Grace, 12th
Cy is a state champion and two-time finalist. He won the Class AA 215-pound title this year as a senior. Cy was runner-up at 220 pounds as a junior, and he was a state qualifier at 160 pounds as a freshman. Cy had an impressive season record of 56-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 138-7 (95.2 win %), including 102 pins. Cy’s GPA is 3.99. Honors and achievements include four-time Northwest Suburban Conference All-Conference, two-year team captain, state record 51 pins in a season, NHSCA Junior National Champion, 2023 USA Wrestling Junior Folkstyle National Champion, and 2024 Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State and Scholarship recipient. Future plans are to wrestle at Cornell University. Cy’s parents are Jay and Mary, and his coach is Doug Svihel.


Wem Jwp Keegan Kuball

Keegan Kuball, 285 pounds
WEM/JWP, 11th

Keegan is a two-state champion and three-time state entrant. He won the Class A 285-pound title in 2024 as a junior and the 285-pound title as a sophomore. He was a state qualifier at 285 pounds as a freshman. Keegan had a season record of 42-4. His current career record is 129-25, including 79 pins. Keegan’s GPA is 3.71. Honors and achievements include three-time Section 2 champion, two-time all-conference for wrestling, two-time all-conference for football, two-time selection for captain in football (WEM) and wrestling (WEM/JWP), Officer in WEM FFA Chapter. Future plans are to attend a four-year University and major in Ag Business, as well as working alongside his family and continuing the “Kuball Dairy” family farm operation. Keegan’s parents are Nathan and Shannon, and his coaches are Adam Roesler and Skyler Petry.


Holdingford Drew Lange

Drew Lange, 160 pounds
Holdingford, 12th

Drew is a state finalist and two-time placewinner. He was the Class A 160-pound third-place finisher this year. Drew was runner-up at 160 pounds as a junior, a state qualifier at 138 pounds as a sophomore, and a freshman at 126 pounds. Drew had an impressive season record of 53-2. He ended his high school career with a record of 227-57, including 96 pins. Drew’s GPA is 3.97. Honors and achievements include three-year team captain, four-time all-conference, Leadership Council – helping make the school a better place with positive leadership skills, Student Council – helping to plan student school events, MSHSL Triple ‘A’ Award winner – excelling in Arts, Athletics and Academics, and 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team. Future plans are to attend Saint John’s University for Exercise Science while wrestling and playing baseball. He has an interest in becoming a Physician’s Assistant in an orthopedic or surgical field. Drew’s parents are Steve and Julie, and his coach is Logan Oellien.


Zumbrota Mazeppa Kaleb Lochner

Kaleb Lochner, 160 pounds
Zumbrota-Mazeppa, 12th

Kaleb is a two-time state placewinner. He was the Class AA 160-pound third-place finisher this year. Kaleb placed third at 152 pounds as a junior and was a state qualifier at 145 pounds as a sophomore and at 120 pounds as a freshman. Kaleb had a season record of 47-6. He ended his high school career with a record of 151-41, including 70 pins. Kaleb’s GPA is 3.9. Honors and achievements include – Wrestling: two-time Hiawatha Valley Conference team champions, four-time HVL all-conference, six-time letter winner, Gold Academic Team, MN#1 wrestler, 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team, two-year team captain. Soccer: three-time state qualifier (2nd and 3rd place finishes), three-time section and HVL Conference champions, three-time Gold Academic, four-time letter winner. Baseball: HVL Conference champions and HVL All-conference pitcher, two-time letter winner. Future plans are to wrestle at Minnesota State University Mankato and pursue a degree in finance. Kaleb’s parents are Ben and Jessica, and his coach is Link Steffen.


Marshall Dylan Louwagie

Dylan Louwagie, 133 pounds
Marshall, 12th

Dylan is a three-time state finalist and five-time placewinner. He was the Class AA 133-pound runner-up this year. He placed second at 132 pounds as a junior and third at 132 pounds as a sophomore. Dylan was a state qualifier at 132 pounds as a freshman. He placed fifth at 113 pounds as an eighth-grader and was runner-up at 106 pounds as a seventh-grader. Dylan had an impressive season record of 51-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 256-27 (90.5 win %), including 118 pins. Dylan’s GPA is 3.74. Honors and achievements include three-year team captain, Big South Conference All-Conference, #10 on Minnesota’s all-time career wins list, and 2023 Marshall ExCel Award winner. Future plans are to wrestle at Southwest Minnesota State University, major in Exercise Science, and eventually become a chiropractor. Dylan’s parents are Lee and Kim, and his coach is Ethan Hoppe.


Thief River Falls Griffin Lundeen

Griffin Lundeen, 160 pounds
Thief River Falls, 12th

Griffin is a two-time state champion and four-time placewinner. He won the Class AA 160-pound title in 2024 as a senior and the 160-pound title as a junior. He placed fifth at 145 pounds as a sophomore and fifth at 138 pounds as a freshman. Griffin had an impressive season record of 53-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 269-33, including 167 pins. Griffin’s GPA is 3.96. Honors and achievements include two-year wrestling captain, 26 career tournament championships, football captain, Fargo All-American, NHSCA All-American, four-time MN/USA national dual team member, and 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team. Griffin is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend Northern State University and continue his wrestling career there. He is undecided on a major. Griffin’s parents are Brian and Beth, and his coach is Kenny Geiser.


Proctor Hermantown Zak Mcphee

Zak McPhee, 189 pounds
Proctor/Hermantown, 12th

Zak is a state champion and two-time finalist. He won the Class AA 189-pound title this year as a senior. Zak was runner-up at 182 pounds as a junior. He was a state qualifier at 152 pounds as a sophomore and at 138 pounds as a freshman. Zak finished his season undefeated with 53 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 243-38, including 153 pins. Zak’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include six-time conference champion, conference MVP, team record-holder for wins and pins, 2024 Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State and Scholarship recipient, football captain and All-District, Track and Field captain, and Math team member. Zak is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle at UW-Eau Claire and pursue a biology-related degree. Zak’s parents are Eric McPhee and Megan Loppnow, and he is coached by his father.


Rocori Grady Minnerath

Grady Minnerath, 285 pounds
Rocori, 12th

Grady is a state finalist and three-time placewinner. He was the Class AA 285-pound runner-up this year. He placed third at 220 pounds as a junior and sixth at 220 pounds as a sophomore. Grady was a state qualifier at 220 pounds as a freshman. Grady had an impressive season record of 44-2. He ended his high school career with a record of 159-46, including 103 pins. Grady’s GPA is 3.86. Honors and achievements include two-year team captain for wrestling, three-year starter for football, All-Star football game selection, All-District for football three years in a row, and third place in Track & Field shot put with a personal best 54’1”. Future plans are to play football at St. John’s University and help out coaching with ROCORI Wrestling next year. Grady’s parents are Glen and Aimee, and his coach is Dustin Kramer.


Becker Kaden Nicolas

Becker, 11th
Kaden is a state champion, three-time finalist, and four-time placewinner. He won the Class AA 139-pound title this year as a junior. Kaden was runner-up at 126 pounds as a sophomore and at 113 pounds as a freshman. He also placed fifth at 106 pounds as an eighth-grader. Kaden had a season record of 53-4. His current career record is 178-19 (90.4 win %), including 74 pins. Kaden’s GPA is 3.79. Honors and achievements include Becker’s record holder for most wins, 2024 and 2025 team captain, two-time MSHSL State Dual Tournament All-Tournament Team, and B3 Member (Building Better Bulldogs – Leadership group). He is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle at a four-year college and major in Exercise Science. Kaden’s parents are Terry and Melissa, and his coach is Travis Holt.


Delano Cael Olson

Cael is a four-time state qualifier and one-time placewinner. He placed fourth at state in 2024 at 160 pounds in Class AA. Cael was a state qualifier at 152 pounds as a junior, 132 pounds as a sophomore, and 113 pounds as a freshman. Cael had a season record of 48-4. He ended his high school career with a record of 175-62, including 73 pins. Cael’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include Scholars Honor Roll, Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State, three-time Wright County Conference All-Conference for wrestling, WCC All-Conference for Baseball and All-District for Football. Cael is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to play baseball at Concordia College-Moorhead. Cael’s parents are Jeff and Tara, and he is coached by his father.


Albert Lea Michael Olson

Michael is a state champion and three-time finalist. He won the 106-pound Class AA title as a sophomore in 2022. He was runner-up at 113 pounds in Class AA in 2023 as a junior and at 133 pounds in Class AAA in 2024 as a senior. Michael had a season record of 49-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 149-12 (92.5 win %), including 81 pins. Michael’s GPA is 3.73. Honors and achievements include 2023 Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State, 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team, National Wrestling Coaches Association High School Scholar All-American in 2024, three-time Rumble on the Red champion, two-time Minnesota Christmas Tournament finalist, Fargo freestyle All-American, and team captain for four seasons. Future plans are to wrestle at North Dakota State and major in Business. Michael’s parents are Reid and Sarah, and his coach is Tyler Vogt.


Scott West Matt Randolph

Matt Randolph, 145 pounds
Scott West, 12th

Matt is a state champion and four-time finalist. He won the Class AA 145-pound title this year as a senior. Matt was runner-up at 138 pounds as a junior, at 120 pounds as a sophomore, and at 106 pounds as a freshman. Matt had a season record of 51-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 186-19 (90.7 win %), including 79 pins. Matt’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include 2023 Fargo Junior Greco All-American, two-time Minnesota Storm Jr. National Team member, two-time Minnesota Storm Cadet National Team member, Jordan HS Captain’s Council, 2021 Minnesota State High School League ExCEL Leadership Award. Matt is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle for Augsburg University while pursuing a degree in computer science. Matt’s parents are Kyle and Tammy, and his coach is Jerold Stauffacher.


Simley Cash Raymond

Cash is a three-time state finalist and five-time placewinner. He was the Class AA 152-pound runner-up this year. He placed second at 152 pounds as a junior and third at 132 pounds as a sophomore. Cash was third at 126 pounds as a freshman and runner-up at 106 pounds as an eighth-grader. Cash had a season record of 52-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 223-29, including 121 pins. Cash’s GPA is 3.67. Honors and achievements include Minnesota Christmas Tournament finalist in 2023 and third place in 2022. Future plans are to wrestle at Augustana University. Cash’s parents are Josh and Joline, and his coach is Will Short.


Mille Lacs Zach Remer

Zach is a two-time state champion, three-time finalist, and four-time placewinner. He won the Class A 121-pound title in 2024 as a junior and the 113-pound title as a sophomore. He placed fourth at 113 pounds as a freshman and was a runner-up at 106 pounds as an eighth-grader. Zach had an impressive season record of 48-1. His current career record is 194-25, including 106 pins. Zach’s GPA is 3.95. Honors and achievements include two-year team captain, five-time letter winner, three-time Team MVP, Rookie of the Year 2020, Most team takedowns for four seasons, Team Fastest Fall Award for three seasons, Team Most Pins – 2023 (27) 2024 (34), Team Most Wins for four seasons – 2021 (36-1) 2022 (44-3) 2023 (43-2) 2024 (48-1), five-time Great River Conference Champ, has not missed a match or a practice in all five years on varsity, Football Offensive MVP for 2023, and Football All-District in 2023 and 2021. Future plans are undecided. Zach’s parents are Andy and Mehgan, and his coach is Josh Hughley.


Bertha Hewitt Verndale Parkers Prairie Abby Ervasti David Revering

David is a state finalist and three-time placewinner. He was the Class A 160-pound runner-up this year. He placed fifth at 145 pounds as a junior and fourth at 113 pounds as a freshman. David was a state qualifier at 126 pounds as a sophomore and at 106 pounds as an eighth-grader. David had a season record of 47-5. He ended his high school career with a record of 218-56, including 119 pins. David’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include six-year letter winner, five-time all-section, four-time all-conference, three-year team captain, four-time football letter-winner, four-time baseball letter-winner, five-time clay shooting letter-winner, 2023 Class Treasurer, 2024 Class Vice President, and FCA member. David is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., to play football and baseball. David’s parents are Amy and Derek, and his coach is Bill Wagner.


St Michael Albertville Landon Robideau

Landon Robideau, 152 pounds

Landon is a three-time state champion and five-time finalist. He won the Class AAA 152-pound title in 2024 as a junior, the 132-pound title as a sophomore, and the 126-pound title as a freshman. He was runner-up at 120 pounds as an eighth-grader and at 106 pounds as a seventh-grader. Landon finished his season undefeated with 54 wins. His current career record is 234-6 (97.5 win %), including 127 pins. Landon’s GPA is 3.95. Honors and achievements include three-time Minnesota Christmas Tournament champion, The Clash Duals All-Tournament Team, The Clash Duals Scholar-Athlete Award winner, MSHSL Wells Fargo All-Tournament Team, Fargo 16U freestyle finalist, and a Fargo Junior freestyle All-American (third place). Future plans are to wrestle at the University of Minnesota and become a nurse anesthetist. Landon’s mother is Jen Robideau, and his coach is Josh Joriman.


Eden Prairie Will Sather

Will Sather, 285 pounds

Will is a two-time state champion and a three-time finalist. He won the Class AAA 285-pound title this year, the 285-pound title as a sophomore, and was runner-up at 285 pounds as a junior. Will was also a state qualifier at 285 pounds as a freshman. Will had an impressive season record of 40-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 186-39, including 138 pins. Will’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include 2021 USA Wrestling folkstyle national champion, 2021 USA Wrestling freestyle national runner-up, two-year team captain, 2023 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team, 2023 KARE 11 All-Metro 1st Team for football, 2023 Star Tribune All-Metro 1st Team for football, 2023 AP All-State 1st Team for football, 2023 team captain for football, Young Men’s Service League 20 hours volunteer/year (2020-2024), and 2023 Football Academic All-State. Will is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle and play football at Princeton University and pursue a degree in economics/business. Will’s parents are Ryan and Ashley, and his coach is Marcus LeVesseur.


Cannon Falls Randolph Calvin Singewald

Cannon Falls, 12th

Calvin is a state finalist and two-time placewinner. He was the Class AA 127-pound runner-up this year.
