The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association annually presents the Mr. Minnesota High School Wrestler award to the senior that best exemplifies the highest ideals of high school wrestling in Minnesota. Starting in 2022, the MWCA partnered with MN Women’s Wrestling to also recognize the Ms. Minnesota High School Wrestler award. Judging is based on wrestling performance, citizenship, academics, leadership, and adherence to MSHSL rules.
This year, the committees are proud to recognize Northfield’s girls’ state champion, Ella Pagel, and STMA’s boys’ state champion, Landon Robideau.

Ella Pagel wraps up her MSHSL wrestling career with her third state title and third undefeated season. Ella would have had the opportunity for four state titles, but injuries derailed her junior year. She was able to bounce back with a dominating, undefeated senior season.
Not only has Ella dominated the Minnesota high school wrestling scene, but she has also racked up accolades nationally and internationally. On the national level, Ella is a two-time USA 16U Folkstyle National Champion, a two-time USA 16U Freestyle National Champion, a Junior Folkstyle National Runner-up, a Junior Freestyle National Runner-up, and a third-place finisher at Junior Freestyle Nationals. She also has a 15U Pan-Am Championship internationally.
Outside of wrestling, Ella is one of a select few females to score a touchdown in a varsity football game in Minnesota. She is very active in 4-H and FFA, where she enjoys showing her prized heifer. Ella was recognized as the 2023 Star Tribune All-Metro Female Athlete of the Year. Ella boasts a 3.37 GPA and is undecided with her college plans.

Landon Robideau finished with a career record of 283-6. During his time at STMA, he amassed program records in pins (160), takedowns (1525), team points (1548), wins (283), and winning percentage (97.92%). He ended his career by winning his fourth consecutive state championship during his sixth consecutive finals appearance and on his 188th consecutive win. Landon has been nominated by his peers to be a team captain for his junior and senior years.
Outside of the practice room, Landon can be found helping to lead FCA wrestling sessions, attending church groups, and being with his family. Landon is also dedicated to giving back to younger generations as a regular volunteer at STMA youth practices. Currently, Landon has a 3.88 GPA and has been enrolled in PSEO the last two years, earning him a great start in college credits as he transitions to attending and competing for Oklahoma State University next season.
The MWCA and MN Women’s Wrestling are honored to have Ella Pagel and Landon Robideau representing our organizations.
