BROOKINGS, S.D. — Three South Dakota State University wrestlers were recognized Tuesday among seven Jackrabbit student-athletes named to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At Large Teams.
The wrestling honorees include senior Cade DeVos, redshirt sophomore Bennett Berge and junior Derrick Cardinal, all of whom have advanced to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration in July.
DeVos, a sixth-year student majoring in interdisciplinary studies and pharmacy, earned his third CSC Academic All-District honor. The veteran wrestler has maintained academic excellence throughout his extended collegiate career while competing at the Division I level.
Cardinal, an exercise science and pre-med major, and Berge, who studies construction management, each received their second Academic All-District recognition. Both wrestlers have demonstrated consistent academic performance while balancing the demands of collegiate wrestling.
The College Sports Communicators Academic All-District program recognizes student-athletes who excel both in competition and the classroom. To qualify, nominees must be at least sophomores in athletic and academic standing while maintaining a minimum 3.50 grade-point average.
The at-large squad encompasses student-athletes from nine sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, tennis, water polo and wrestling.
Four additional SDSU student-athletes from the men’s and women’s golf programs also earned Academic All-District honors, bringing the university’s total recognition to seven athletes across multiple sports programs.
