Apple Valley Wrestler Cassandra Gonzales Goes 1-1 at U17 World Championships

ATHENS, Greece — Apple Valley High School wrestler Cassandra Gonzales was eliminated from competition at the 2025 U17 World Championships after going 1-1 in the 69-kilogram division.

Competing for MN Elite Wrestling Club, Gonzales opened with an 11-0 technical fall victory over Gereltuya Amarsaikhan of Mongolia in the round of 16. The Apple Valley wrestler controlled the match from start to finish, building an insurmountable lead before securing the technical fall.

However, Gonzales’ tournament run ended in the quarterfinals when she was pinned by Manisha Manisha of India.

The championships, taking place July 28 through Aug. 3 in Athens, feature the world’s top junior (age 17 and under) wrestlers competing for their respective countries. Gonzales qualified for the U.S. team earlier this year.

The tournament continues through Saturday, with medal matches scheduled for the final day of competition.
