The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association (MWCA) proudly announces Hastings Community TV (HCTV) as the recipient of the 2026 MWCA Media Award.
Each year, the MWCA recognizes a media organization that elevates the sport of wrestling in Minnesota through outstanding coverage, professionalism, and commitment to student-athletes. This year’s selection reflects a standard of excellence that sets Hastings Community TV apart across the state.
In the nomination submitted by Tim Haneberg of Hastings High School, HCTV’s wrestling coverage was described as “second to none,” citing the exceptional camera work, professional commentary, and added features such as instant replay and live match scoring.
Opposing schools echo that sentiment. Brian Johnson, Principal of St. Croix Central High School in Wisconsin, praised the HCTV crew for their knowledge of the sport, preparation, and balanced commentary. He noted the announcers’ professionalism and their efforts to accurately identify wrestlers—even when lineups changed—before beginning commentary. St. Croix Central Head Coach Brad Holzer shared similar feedback, calling the production “the best high school production I have ever seen” after receiving numerous positive messages from viewers.
What distinguishes HCTV is the preparation behind every broadcast. According to Coach Haneberg, commentators Kyle Kreuser and Mitch Shemon invest hours researching teams and athletes, including rankings, past results, and key wins.
Under the leadership of Sports Director Hunter Pinke, HCTV delivers:
- Multiple camera angles
- Instant replay during matches
- Live team and individual scoring
- Pre-season boys and girls wrestling roundtable previews
- The award-winning “Dear Wrestling” video series
- HCTV Media Award
This level of production far exceeds the single-camera model common in many high school settings.
The MWCA Media Award recognizes media members and organizations that go beyond reporting scores. It honors those who tell stories, celebrate athletes, promote programs, and strengthen wrestling communities across Minnesota. Hastings Community TV exemplifies that mission.
Their work promotes both boys and girls wrestling, highlights student-athlete character, and connects communities through high-quality storytelling and live coverage. Their commitment strengthens the visibility and reputation of Minnesota high school wrestling statewide. The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association congratulates Hunter Pinke, Kyle, Mitch, and the entire Hastings Community TV team on this well-deserved recognition.
