MOORHEAD, Minn. — Three Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestlers have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Men’s At-Large Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
Dragons wrestlers Parker Benz, Pedro Velazquez, and Edon Davis were among six MSUM student-athletes recognized for their combined performances on the mat and in the classroom. Three members of the women’s golf team also received honors.
To qualify for the academic distinction, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, achieve at least sophomore academic standing, and compete in at least 75% of their team’s scoring events or the conference championship meet.
Benz, a finance major who graduated this past spring, anchored the wrestling honorees with a 3.72 GPA.
Velazquez secured his second consecutive selection to the Academic All-District® list. The senior finished his degree in business administration this spring while maintaining a 3.51 GPA.
Davis, an actuarial science major, rounded out the wrestling selections with a 3.67 GPA.
By making the All-District® team, the trio advances to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Finalists selected from the ballot will move on to national voting, with the men’s Division II Academic All-America® teams scheduled to be announced July 8.
