BROOKINGS, S.D. — Three South Dakota State University wrestlers were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® At-Large Team on Tuesday, leading a group of eight Jackrabbit student-athletes recognized for their performance both on the mat and in the classroom.
Redshirt juniors Brock Fettig and Cael Swensen, along with redshirt sophomore Brady Roark, secured spots on the prestigious academic squad. The at-large category honors elite student-athletes competing in sports outside traditional major-media coverage, including wrestling, golf, tennis, and ice hockey.
For Swensen, a business economics major, the selection marks the second Academic All-District honor of his collegiate career. His academic resume was strong enough to advance him to the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration, which will be decided in July.
Fettig, also a business economics major, and Roark, a construction management major, both earned the distinction for the first time.
To qualify for the CSC Academic All-District team, student-athletes must maintain at least a sophomore athletic and academic standing while holding a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher.
The wrestling trio headlined a broader day of success for the South Dakota State athletic department. Five Jackrabbit golfers were also named to the at-large team.
From the men’s golf team, junior Ty Adkins (sport management), sophomore Jake Olson (human biology), and junior Drew Teeter (mechanical engineering) received honors. On the women’s side, junior Hannah Boraas (mass communication) and senior McKenzie Mages (communication studies) were selected.
The announcement marked the third career academic all-district honor for Mages and the second for Teeter. Adkins, Olson, and Boraas joined wrestlers Fettig and Roark as first-time recipients.
