Five Gopher wrestlers named Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award recipients

MINNEAPOLIS — Five members of the University of Minnesota wrestling team were named Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award recipients, the conference announced Monday.

Chris Cannon, Wyatt Duchateau, Max McEnelly, Ethan Riddle, and Andrew Sparks were among the 126 Golden Gopher student-athletes recognized for their academic excellence during the 2025-26 academic year. Riddle highlighted the wrestling cohort as one of 27 Minnesota student-athletes to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA.

To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must be full-time enrollees, secure Academic All-Big Ten recognition, and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding summer grades.

Across the entire athletics department, 18 Minnesota programs were represented on the distinguished list.
