Labette wins NJCAA National Championships

Itasca and Minnesota West top Minnesota Junior Colleges

Labette (Kan.) won the 2012 NJCAA National Championships on Saturday at the UCR Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minn. Labette had nine wrestlers earn All-American status (top eight finish), including two individual national champions, to pull out in front in the final team standings.

High School State Tournament Preview

Three teams, 20 individuals return to defend titles; New weight classes to debut

All three of the 2011 team champions return to defend their respective titles: the Jackson County Central Huskies in Class A; the Simley Spartans in Class AA; and the Apple Valley Eagles in Class AAA. Jackson County Central, which tied Frazee for top honors in 2011, is looking for its third consecutive title. Simley of Inver Grove Heights is looking for its fifth consecutive title and Apple Valley is seeking its seventh consecutive title.

Big Ten Announces Tournament Pre-Seeds

Kevin Steinhaus, Sonny Yohn and Tony Nelson receieve No. 1 seeds

The Big Ten Conference has announced the preliminary seeds for the 2012 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, which are set to take place from March 3-4 at Mackey Arena on the campus of Purdue University. The pre-seeds, rank the top eight wrestlers in seven weight classes, are decided based on a vote by the conference coaches. Due to the conference receiving nine or more NCAA qualifier allocations at 149, 174 and 285, 12 wrestlers were seeded in each of those weight classes.

Dragons’ No. 1 Ulmer and Bennett Nationally Qualify at Super Region 3 Tournament

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Corey Ulmer only began his postseason journey Sunday as he finished first at the NCAA Division II Super Region 3 tournament. Ulmer and Jacob Bennett qualified nationally for the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons by finishing in the top four in St. Cloud, Minn.

United sending 6 to state wrestling tournament

DAWSON – Disappointed after falling to Windom/Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin in the Section 3AA team championship, the Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley wrestling team pushed to bring as many individuals as it could to the individual tournament.

With the home crowd by their side, the United sent six wrestlers to the state tournament, including three section champions, during Day 2 of the Section 3AA individual tournament at the Dawson-Boyd Community Center. Continue reading at
