NWCA Releases Final Regular Season NCAA D3 Men’s Coaches Polls

Manheim, PA – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released the final regular season NCAA Division III Men’s Coaches Polls, which now have Wartburg leading the Tournament poll and Augsburg still in the #1 spot in the dual poll. 

In the tournament team poll, the top five are comprised of #1 Warburg (77.5), #2 Augsburg (77), #3 UW La Crosse (56.5), #4 North Central (47), and #5 Coast Guard (39). 

The top five teams in the dual poll are #1 Augsburg (10-1), #2 Wartburg (15-1), #3 UW La Crosse (12-2), #4 North Central (11-2), and #5 Coe (12-2).

Sparks Takes Title at Patriots Last Chance Open

MINNEAPOLIS — In one final tuneup before the Big Ten Championships, March 9-10, Gophers senior Andrew Sparks took home the title at the Patriots Last Chance Open in Fairfax, Va., Sunday.

Sparks and redshirt junior Sam Skillings both competed at 174 pounds for Minnesota, with Sparks taking home the title with a 3-0 record, while Skillings was second with a 2-1 mark.

Auggie women sending 3 to NCWWC nationals

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Qualifying three individuals to the upcoming National College Women’s Wrestling Championships, the Augsburg University women’s wrestling team finished in fifth place at the NCWWC Region IV Regionals, held on Sunday at North Central University.

With 60 points, Augsburg finished in a tie for fifth place in the nine-team meet, featuring five teams ranked in the top 20 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association national rankings for NCAA-affiliated schools. No. 1-ranked North Central (Ill.) won the meet with 219.0 points, followed by No. 9-ranked Aurora (Ill.) with 106, No. 18-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point with 103.5, No. 15-ranked Northern Michigan with 82.0 and No. 14 Augsburg tied with Augustana (Ill.) with 60 points each.

Three Auggies finished in the top four in their weight classes, earning berths in the National College Women’s Wrestling Championships for NCAA-affiliated schools, which will be held March 8-9 at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In its five-year history of women’s wrestling, Augsburg now has 52 national tournament qualifiers (44 NCWWC, eight WCWA).

Jacks to bid Frost, seniors farewell

The South Dakota State wrestling team closes out the regular season and a chapter in it the program’s storied history Sunday afternoon by hosting rival North Dakota State in the final dual at Frost Arena.

Action is set for 2 p.m., with the eight-member Jackrabbit senior class being honored prior to the dual. Video coverage will be available through FloWrestling.org (subscription required).

The Jackrabbits, ranked 11th in the latest NWCA Division I Coaches Poll, enter the matchup with a 12-4 overall dual record, including a 6-2 mark against Big 12 opponents. SDSU has dropped its last two duals to higher-ranked opponents, falling 31-6 at No. 2 Oklahoma State on Feb. 10, followed by a 21-19 home loss to seventh-ranked Missouri last Sunday.

Three Gopher Wrestling Signees Win State Titles

MINNEAPOLIS – Three of Minnesota wrestling’s signees claimed titles at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships in Madison, Wis., on Saturday.

After winning at 145 pounds last season and 132 as a sophomore, Wyatt Duchateau of Arrowhead High School became a three-time state champion after he took home the Division I 150-pound title. Duchateau pinned each of his first two opponents in under a minute before posting an 8-1 decision in the semifinals. He then capped his senior season with a 10-5 victory in the finals.

Minnesota State Travels to No. 5 UW-Parkside

Minnesota State travels to Kenosha, Wis. tomorrow, Feb. 23rd, to face the Rangers at 7:00 p.m. for their last regular season dual.

About UW-Parkside: The No. 5 Rangers are currently 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the NSIC, with their only loss to St. Cloud State (6-27). UW-Parkside is coached by Nick Becker. Throughout his two years with the Rangers, he’s amassed a 14-5 record, along with a third-place finish at NCAA II Regionals. UW-Parkside also has six ranked wrestlers, including No. 3 Shane Corrigan (125) and No. 3 Cayden Henschel (141).
