Nelson to Defend Title in Heavyweight Championship

Minnesota’s Tony Nelson has done it again, advancing to the NCAA Championship final for the second year in a row in the heavyweight bracket. With help from a nicely-executed third-period takedown, Nelson defeated Oklahoma State’s Alen Gelogaev by a score of 5-4 to advance.

Sprenkle Shocks Two-Time NCAA Champ for All-America Honors

DES MOINES – Trent Sprenkle knew it wouldn’t be easy. But he also knew it could be done.

The North Dakota State senior knocked off two-time 125-pound national champion Matt McDonough of Iowa in the Round of 12 at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday evening, securing the first All-American finish by a Bison wrestler since the school joined the Division I ranks.

Nine Still Alive as Storley and Nelson Advance to Semifinals

Minnesota remains in third with 49.5 points

Logan Storley (174 lbs.) and Tony Nelson (HWT) have advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Both will wrestle in tonight’s semifinal showdown here at Wells Fargo Arena. In addition, seven other Gophers have avoided elimination to remain in the consolation contest. The nine total representatives are the most of any school at the national tournament as Iowa, Penn State, and Oklahoma State only boast seven.
