Fuenffinger competing at Olympic Trials

Augsburg College wrestler Mike Fuenffinger (FY, Hibbing, Minn.) will be competing this weekend at the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials in Iowa City, Iowa, competing in the 55-kilogram (121-pound) division in Greco-Roman competition.

Competition in the 55-kg Greco-Roman weight class is on Saturday (4/21) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 6-to-9 p.m. at Carver-Hawkeye Arena at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. There are 10 competitors in the 55-kg Greco-Roman weight class. In the most recent USA Wrestling Greco-Roman Senior national rankings (Nov. 22, 2011), Fuenffinger was ranked No. 9 nationally in the 55-kg class. Continue reading at augsburg.edu

Lensing receives Britton Scholar-Athlete Award

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced Thursday Augustana’s Cody Lensing has been honored with the 2012 Dr. William Britton Scholar-Athlete Award for Academic Excellence. The award recognizes the conference’s top male student-athlete.

A senior from Moundsview, Minn., Lensing is majoring in biochemistry with a minor in philosophy and holds a 3.96 grade-point average. The Totino-Grace High School graduate wrestled for the Vikings at 125 pounds. Continue reading

To make an Olympic team requires a special commitment from a special athlete. Usually that commitment includes a full-time dedication to that particular discipline.

Sanders in search of Olympic glory

Zach Sanders’ collegiate wrestling career wrapped up a little more than a month ago with what he called a disappointing third-place finish at the NCAA championships in St. Louis.

This weekend, he will hit the mat in Iowa with a trip to London on the line.
