Minnesota Wrestling to Host Coaches Clinic on Oct. 26

Headlining clinicians include Jake Herbert, Zach Sanders, and Guy Melby

The University of Minnesota wrestling team, led by head coach J Robinson and his staff, will once again host a coaches clinic this fall. The event will take place on Oct. 26, 2012 at the Bierman Field Athletic Building in Minneapolis, Minn. The clinic offers professional instruction on the fundamentals and techniques of coaching wrestling and is open to all interested participants and fans of the sport.

NDSU Wrestling Adds Glasser to Staff

North Dakota State head wrestling coach Roger Kish has announced the addition of North Dakota high school legend and former University of Minnesota standout Scott Glasser to his coaching staff as a volunteer assistant.

“We’re excited to add Scott to our staff,” said Kish. “He’s energetic, a great technical teacher, and will be an asset to North Dakota State as we produce a new generation of wrestlers.”

Nelson Finishes Fifth at World University Championships

Reigning NCAA Heavyweight National Champion represents the USA in Finland

USA Wrestling wrapped up another day of competition today at the World University Wrestling Championships in Kourtane, Finland. Minnesota heavyweight Tony Nelson competed for the men’s freestyle team in the 120 kg/264.5 lb. weight class and worked his way to fifth place, for the top USA finish of the day.

Wrestlers fight ‘mat herpes’ infection

Boynton physician releases new study on skin-infection treatment.

B.J. Anderson has spent years educating physicians, coaches, parents and athletes in the wrestling community on the importance of preventing and reducing skin infections in the sport.

His efforts have even earned him a nickname: “The Mat Doc.”

The University of Minnesota has two wrestlers competing this week at the World University Wrestling Championships in Kourtane, Finland as members of the USA men’s freestyle team. Former Gopher Zach Sanders (Lauderdale, Minn.) and current heavyweight starter, and reigning NCAA National Champion, Tony Nelson (Cambridge, Minn.) after qualifying at the University Trials in Colorado Springs in late August.

Skala Honored at 2012 SCSU Wrestling Wall Ceremony

St. Cloud State University Athletics honored Derek Skala as its 2012 Male Student-Athlete of the Year at the recent St. Cloud State University Wrestling Team’s “Wall Ceremony” on Sept. 29 in St. Cloud.
