Ruiz drops only bout at 96kg Greco-Roman at Olympic Qualifying event in China on Sunday

Justin Ruiz (Orem, Utah/New York AC) was defeated in his first match and was eliminated from competition at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. in Greco-Roman at the World Olympic Games Qualifying Tourmament in Taiyuan, China on Sunday.

Bunch qualifies U.S. at 60kg freestyle for Olympics

Shawn Bunch (Columbus, Ohio/Gator WC) qualified the United States to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games at 60 kg/132 lbs. in men’s freestyle by placing third at the World Olympic Games Qualifying Tourmament in Taiyuan, China on Friday, April 27 in his weight class.

Pioneer wrestler grapples with gender taboos

Her seven brothers and a family history in wrestling helped Chandell Knox break new ground for women in sports and break into the movies as well. She is one of 11 females featured in Grappling Girls, a 2008 documentary on women wrestling.

“I thought it was very well put together,” she observed after seeing herself on film for the first time during a brief showing at the U of M Tucker Center Film Festival in February. “I really don’t remember doing it, because it was about six years ago. I was at a tournament and the lady who is doing the movie came up and asked questions. Bunch, Ruiz to seek Olympic qualification for their weights in China this weekend

The United States will enter two talented athletes in the World Olympic Games Qualifying Tourmament in Taiyuan, China, April 27-29.

Up first for Team USA is 2009 World Team member Shawn Bunch (Columbus, Ohio/Gator WC) at 60 kg/132 lbs. in men’s freestyle. He will weigh in on Thursday, April 26 and compete on Friday, April 27.

2005 World bronze medalist Justin Ruiz (Orem, Utah/New York AC) will wrestle at 96 kg/211 lbs. in Greco-Roman. Ruiz will weigh in on Saturday, April 28 and will compete on Sunday, April 29. Continue reading at themat.com
