PATTAYA, Thailand — All four U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers were eliminated from medal contention on Wednesday at the 2012 FILA Junior World Championships at the Eastern Sports Training Center in Pattaya, Thailand.

Mike Fuenffinger (Hibbing, Minn./Minnesota Storm), Lucas Sheridan (Concord, Calif./Hoosier WC) and Wyatt Baker (Anaheim Hills, Calif./NYAC) all finished in 10th place during the final day of Greco-Roman competition. Continue reading at www.themat.com

DII Winter Championships Festival relocated to Birmingham

The 2013 Division II Winter National Championships Festival has been moved from Cleveland to Birmingham, Ala., because of challenges involving the hotel block in Cleveland.

The Festival – which will feature Division II national championships in men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s indoor track, and wrestling – will be conducted March 3-9, 2013, at Birmingham’s CrossPlex multisport facility. The dates and schedule of events will not be affected by the change of venue. The Gulf South Conference and the City of Birmingham will serve as co-hosts. Continue reading

U.S. to send strong teams to FILA Junior World Championships in Thailand, Sept. 4-9

The United States will send an experienced team to the 2012 FILA Junior World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, September 4-9.

Jake Short and Nick Wanzek have been teammates and competitors since their very first tee-ball game back in first grade.

The Simley High School seniors have continued their athletic careers together through elementary, junior high and high school until arriving, finally, at their final year with the Spartans. But that’s not goodbye: Their next stop — together, of course — is the University of Minnesota, where both have given oral commitments to wrestle for the Gophers.
