Itasca adds two for the fall

Itasca has added two wrestlers to their 2012 incoming class.

Joining the Vikings in the fall are two-time state qualifier Michael Dyer of Richfield and two-time state placewinner Dwayne Redlin of Deuel, South Dakota. Dyer is a heavyweight and Redlin is projected at 149 or 157 pounds.

Kroells named MWCA Mr. Minnesota of Wrestling; Skillings, Zimmer, and Block are Coaches of the Year

Michael Kroells of Scott West is this year’s Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association (MWCA) Mr. Minnesota of Wrestling. He will be honored at the MWCA Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, April 28th in Benson, MN.

The MWCA annually presents the Mr. Minnesota High School Wrestler award to the senior that best exemplifies the highest ideals of high school wrestling in Minnesota. Judging is based on past performances, citizenship, academics, leadership, and adherence to MSHSL rules. Continue reading

Bunch qualifies U.S. at 60kg freestyle for Olympics

Shawn Bunch (Columbus, Ohio/Gator WC) qualified the United States to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games at 60 kg/132 lbs. in men’s freestyle by placing third at the World Olympic Games Qualifying Tourmament in Taiyuan, China on Friday, April 27 in his weight class.

At this event, an athlete must place in the top three of their weight class to qualify their nation for the London Games. Only athletes whose weights were not yet qualified for the Olympics were eligible to enter the tournament. Continue reading at

Jason Brandt honored with MWCA Publicity Award

Jason Brandt is the 2012 recipient of The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Publicity Award. The Publicity Award is for someone who selflessly promotes the great sport of wrestling.

Jason Brandt is the Assistant General Manager at KSCR/KBMO Radio, in Benson, and has been the Sports Director and play-by-play voice since 1991. Continue reading
