NDSU Tops Arizona State, Falls to No. 9 Central Michigan at Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, Va. – The North Dakota State wrestling team split a pair of duals Friday on the opening day of the Virginia Duals, defeating Arizona State 22-19 before falling to No. 9 Central Michigan, 31-10.

NDSU (3-5) got wins from Trent Sprenkle, Josh Rodriguez, Mark Erickson, Joe Garner and Steven Monk to defeat Arizona State in the first round matchup. The No. 6-ranked Sprenkle won by technical fall over Ares Carpio to start things off, and Rodriguez and Erickson followed with a pair of major decisions at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively.

Oklahoma State to host 2013 World Team Trials in Stillwater, Okla., June 21-23

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State University has been selected to host the 2013 U.S. World Team Trials for all three Olympic wrestling styles, along with the FILA Junior World Trials at Gallagher-Iba Arena on June 21-23. Numerous World and Olympic medalists, and past U.S. World and Olympic Team members, are expected to compete including Jordan Burroughs, Clarissa Chun, Coleman Scott, and Jake Varner. #4 Huskies to defend NWCA Duals Title on Jan. 12-13

The #4 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (7-0, 1-0 NSIC) will open defense of its NWCA Division II National Duals title on Jan. 12 with a 9 a.m. match against UNC-Pembroke at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Ill.

This double-elimination duals tournament will continue through Jan. 13 and it will feature many of the nation’s top ranked Division II teams including #1 Nebraska Kearney, #2 Newberry, #3 Central Oklahoma, #5 Upper Iowa and #6 Grand Canyon.
