Rose shines brightest at 2012 InterMat JJ Classic

ROCHESTER, Minn. — In a tournament filled with national champions, All-Americans, and state champions, it was Nathan Rose who shined brightest at the third annual InterMat JJ Classic held on Sunday at the UCR Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minn.

The Sibley East (Minn.) junior won the title in the 195-pound weight class, and had a path that included a semifinal victory over University of Michigan commit Payne Hayden (St. Johns, Mich.) and a finals victory over Lance Benick (Totino-Grace, Minn.), a USA Wrestling Cadet National Triple Crown winner and the nation’s No. 8 sophomore. SJU’s Hagen Ranked Second, Four Others Listed in Preseason Rankings

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Five Saint John’s University wrestlers were mentioned in the preseason individual rankings released Oct. 25.

Senior Mitch Hagen (Sunburg, Minn./Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg) was ranked second nationally at 184 pounds, while junior Nick Schuler (Roseville, Minn./Totino-Grace) and senior Chris Stevermer (Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) were listed as “contenders” to crack the top 10 at 165 and 157 pounds, respectively. Juniors Joe Hessing (Loretto, Minn./Delano) and Aaron Padrnos (Brainerd, Minn.) received honorable mention status at 149 and 141 pounds, respectively.
