Bernard named 2011 USA Wrestling Women’s Wrestler of the Year

Ali Bernard (New Ulm, Minn./Gator WC) was named 2011 Women’s Wrestler of the Year by USA Wrestling. It is the first time in her career that she has received this award.

Bernard won a bronze medal at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. at the 2011 World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey in September, one of two U.S. women wrestlers to claim a bronze medal. Her performance helped lead the USA to a tie for third place in the team standings. With her medal performance, Bernard qualified the USA to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games at her weight class. A dream realized

Osakis’ Nona Betts is like a lot of proud grandparents, which is why she gets a little choked up talking about her grandson’s latest accomplishment.

Nona has plenty of pictures chronicling Chas Betts’ wrestling career from the time it started in first grade. She watched him develop a passion for the sport and set goals. It just so happens that those goals were set higher than almost every other kid. Continue reading at
