ESPN Expands NCAA Wrestling Championship Coverage: Every Mat to be Shown for the First Time

ESPN’s long-standing commitment to expanding coverage of wrestling continues with plans for the 2014 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship in Oklahoma City March 20- 22. For the first time, live coverage of every mat during the tournament will be available on an ESPN network. For the last five years, ESPN3 has carried an exclusive four-screen, four-mat viewing experience unique to wrestling. The expansion will create an unprecedented eight-mat viewing experience on ESPN3 for the early rounds and six-mat coverage for the Semifinals, with full match coverage continuing on ESPN3, ESPNU or ESPN and WatchESPN for the Semifinal, Medal and Championship rounds.

Another format change dims National Duals’ luster

The National Wrestling Coaches Association’s latest push to raise the profile of its National Duals tournament has resulted in another stalemate.

NWCA executive director Mike Moyer said Friday that the duals will likely revert back to a one-weekend event next February in New York’s Madison Square Garden, and three of the sport’s powerhouse programs won’t be in the field. Concordia Gains Invite to 2014 NWCA Division III National Duals

The Concordia wrestling team, has been invited to participate in the 2014 NWCA Division III National Duals on Jan 11th and 12th in Des Moines, Iowa. This invite-only tournament features the top NCAA Division III wrestling programs.

Selection to the tournament is based on returning national placewinners and overall team strength from teams who apply for entrance to the 2014 tournament.
