Gable Steveson named to ASICS America Boys First Team for third time

ASICS America Corporation is pleased to announce the 33rd annual ASICS Boys All-America Wrestling Team, and honors senior Gable Steveson (285) of Apple Valley (Minn.) and junior Adam Busiello (126) of Eastport (N.Y.) Eastport-South Manor as repeat First Team selections.
The ASICS All-America Team, selected by a nationwide panel of wrestling experts, is the only national all-star team for which wrestlers enrolled in all four high-school grades are eligible.
The ASICS All-America Team includes eight wrestlers at each of the 14 high school weight classes – the First, Second, and Third Teams and five Honorable Mention selections. To be considered, a wrestler must have competed during the scholastic season, and all team members were selected at the weight class at which they competed, or would have competed, in their state tournament or the National Prep Championships this year.

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State University wrestling team loaded up on talent in the lower and middle weights, signing four high school standouts Wednesday to National Letters of Intent.
“This is one of the best classes we’ve ever brought in, not only for the wrestling but for the people they are, the programs they come from and the goals they have set for themselves,” Jackrabbit head coach Chris Bono said. “We’re excited to get going with these guys and to continue to build on the things we’ve done here so far.”

A championship match and a friendship years in the making

Shakopee's Alex Lloyd and Owatonna's Peyton Robb have come full circle. As the clock wound down in the 145AAA individual finals, Robb held a one-point lead over Lloyd. With under a minute to go in the third, Lloyd hit a takedown and was able to ride out Robb for the final few seconds to win the title. For both juniors, the match was bittersweet. After the referee had put Lloyd's hand in the air, both wrestlers embraced in the center of the Xcel Energy Center – possibly for the last time in competition.
The first time they wrestled each other they were in elementary school. It would become the first of many times the two would lock horns in competition and in the practice room. Shortly after their first meeting, they would become training partners and best friends.
"The first time I met him it was at an elementary school tournament," Robb said. "He won a one-point match."
