NWCA NCAA DII Rankings – December 31, 2021

MANHEIM, PA – The University of Central Oklahoma held onto the top spot in NCAA Division II Wrestling to close out the 2021 calendar year, as announced in the NWCA Division II Coaches Poll released Friday, Dec. 31.

The #1 Bronchos widened their lead on the rest of the field, topping #2 St. Cloud State by 18 points, with UCO amassing 104 total points behind seven ranked wrestlers- including three #1s. The three-time defending National Champion Huskies took the two-spot with 86 points, with McKendree (70), West Liberty (67), and Nebraska-Kearney (62) rounding out D2’s top five.

Augustana 27 Minnesota State 6

No. 15 Augustana Wrestling Brings Down No. 10 Mavericks

MANKATO, Minn– Viking wrestling traveled to Mankato, Minnesota, on Sunday for a bout with the Minnesota State Mavericks. The Vikings saw eight wrestlers earn victories in a 27-6 final to take down the 10th ranked Mavericks.

The Mavericks have three nationally ranked wrestlers with No. 8 Trenton McManus at 125 pounds, No. 4 Kyle Rathman at 149 pounds, and No. 2 Trevor Turriff at 174 pounds.

The Vikings have three nationally-ranked wrestlers in No. 5 Jack Huffman, No. 8 Kolby Kost, and No. 4 Steven Hajas.

Nebraska-Kearney 30 Augustana 15

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — No. 15 Augustana wrestling fell to the No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney Lopers in an afternoon dual on Friday. The Vikings saw four wrestlers earn victories in the 30-15 loss to the Lopers. Augustana falls to 1-3 in dual action on the season with all three losses coming to either NCAA Division I opponents or a top-3 ranked team.

Freshman Jaxson Rohman, competing at 125 pounds, started the Vikings off strong with a win over No. 10 Josh Portillo. Rohman recorded four takedowns on his way to an 8-6 decision victory to earn three team points for Augustana. He moves to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in dual action this season.

Augustana Travels Sunday for Dual at No. 10 Minnesota State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– No. 15 Augustana wrestling returns to the Elmen Center on Friday for a bout with the No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney Lopers. A split weekend sees the Vikings traveling to Mankato, Minnesota, on Sunday to take on Minnesota State in an NSIC dual.

Viking Wrestling Not Travelling this Weekend; Will be Home on Dec. 17

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Due to impending weather across the midwest, Augustana wrestling will not be traveling to Chadron, Nebraska, for the Chadron State Duals with San Francisco State and Chadron State.

Augustana returns to the Elmen Center on December 17 for its last dual before the New Year. Nebraska-Kearney will be on the mat with the Vikings at noon. Please note the time change for the dual at noon.

North Dakota State 28, Augustana 10

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – North Dakota State wrestling picked up a 28-10 victory over Augustana Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Pentagon in a return to dual match play for the Bison.

North Dakota State (2-1, 0-1 Big 12) improved its dual meet record in the all-time series to 38-3 over the Vikings (1-2, 1-0 NSIC) with the victory.

Senior Brandon Metz started off the afternoon with a 9-5 decision over Steven Hajas in the heavyweight division to improve to 6-1 on the season. Metz secured a pair of early takedowns in the first period and then recorded an escape and takedown in the second period to pull comfortably ahead before adding his fifth riding time point of the season.

Augustana 29 Upper Iowa 9

No. 15 Viking Wrestling Defeats No. 9 Upper Iowa in Home Opener

SIOUX FALLS S.D.– Augustana wrestling, ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, took down the No.9 Upper Iowa Peacocks on Friday night in its home debut inside the Elmen Center. The final score was 29-9 in favor of the Vikings. Augustana moves to 1-1 in dual action on the season and 1-0 in the NSIC.

The Vikings saw seven wrestlers earn victories in the 10 bouts.

Jaxson Rohman started the string of victories for AU with a win at 125 pounds. Rohman defeated his opponent by major decision, 19-7, earning four team points for Augustana.
