Matthew Boyum relies on thinking, instinct in title quest

Matthew Boyum was on the mat for nearly a minute, butted heads with another wrestler, arms locked up. He was dissecting how to beat his opponent.

The Chanhassen senior would win the match by a 10-1 score over Xander Falkenstein of Eden Prairie, a section champion last season. Boyum’s 100th career victory.

Takedowns in each of the first two periods followed by a six-point third round which included a reversal and third takedown led to a dominating victory.

“I do a lot of thinking during the middle of a match. It’s a lot of thinking, but a lot of instinct, too. I try to think about what I’m going to do next and if that doesn’t work what comes after that,” Boyum said. Continue reading at www.swnewsmedia.com
