Franek Named CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – North Dakota State wrestler Jared Franek has been voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Men’s At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Tuesday.

Franek, a junior 157-pound wrestler for the Bison, has a 4.00 grade-point average majoring in sport management with a minor in business administration. It is a first-time honor for Franek, who was the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2022 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship earlier this year. He was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 team earlier this year.

Turriff Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

Austin, Tex. — Minnesota State senior wrestling national champion Trevor Turriff has been selected First Team Academic All-America® men’s at large by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. In order to be nominated for this award, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and be a significant contributor to their team. After Academic All-District teams are announced, Academic All-America teams are voted on by sports information personnel from across the country.

Bishop Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

AUSTIN, Texas.–Augustana senior wrestler Daniel Bishop has been recognized on the 2021-22 CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America At-Large Second Team, CoSIDA announced Tuesday.

The at-large program for the CoSIDA Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.

Bishop graduated in May of 2022 with a master’s degree in sports administration and leadership. He previously completed his undergraduate degree in psychology with a GPA of 3.94. He becomes the eighth Augustana wrestler in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Tyler Shilson named CoSIDA Academic All-America

MINNEAPOLIS — Augsburg University men’s wrestler Tyler Shilson (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Centennial HS) was selected to the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Men’s At-Large Team as a second-team honoree, it was announced on Tuesday.

A finance major with a 4.00 grade-point average, Shilson earned a spot on the 45-person Division III men’s at-large academic squad, made up of a 15-person first team, 17-person second team, and 13-person third team. The men’s at-large category includes student-athletes from 12 NCAA men’s sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling.

Across all sports, Augsburg student-athletes have now been honored 50 times with CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since 1981, including 40 honors since 2000 and at least one every year since 2011. It’s the 13th time an Augsburg men’s wrestler has earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in program history.

Vos garners CoSIDA Academic All-America honors

Fifth-year senior is third straight wrestler to earn honor in back-to-back seasons

LEXINGTON, KY – For the second straight season, St. Cloud State University wrestling’s Garrett Vos (St. Bonifacius, Minn. / Waconia) is an Academic All-American. The fifth-year senior earned the prestigious honor from the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as he was named Second Team Academic All-America by the organization Tuesday morning.

This is the second straight Academic All-America honor for Vos, as he was named First Team Academic All-America at the conclusion of the 2020-21 academic year. A criminal justice major, Vos maintained a 3.66 GPA while leading the Huskies to another impressive season on the mat. In 2021-22, Vos became the 11th four-time All-American in St. Cloud State history, as he finished as the nation’s runner-up at 133 pounds at the national championship for the second consecutive season. He additionally helped the Huskies break the NCAA record for consecutive win streak, as he played a key role in St. Cloud State’s 77 consecutive dual match victories.
