Simley’s Jim Short dies; he developed Minnesota high school wrestling

Jim Short, the patriarch of Minnesota’s first family of high school wrestling, passed away Saturday at his home in Inver Grove Heights after an intense two-year struggle with cancer. He was 67.

Michael R. Busian, MD (1946-2014)

Dr. Michael Busian, long time friend, and weight certification doctor for the Morris/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta wrestling team passed away on Sunday. Busian served as the team’s weight certification doctor for over 30 years. Son Tim was a state entrant and placewinner for Morris Area/Hancock. The team has renamed its annual MAHACA Invitational Tournament in honor of Dr. Busian.

Memorial services will be held Monday, May 5th at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 4th. Obituary

Ronald E. “Ron” White (1936-2013)

Former Rochester John Marshall wrestling coach Ron White passed away on Friday. White was JM’s coach from 1963 through 1975. Prior to that he coached at Winona. White was inducted into the Mayo Civic Center Region 1 Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2009.

Visitation will be Saturday January 4, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester. A Memorial Service will follow the Visitation. Obituary

Former Apple Valley assistant coach Matt Morgan passes away

Matthew Morgan, age 42, of Minneapolis, left this world on September 4, 2013 surrounded by his loving relatives. Matthew was preceded in death by mother, Susan and grandfather, Tom Collins. Survived by daughters, Madyson and Mara; father, Mike; brothers, Joe (JoLene) and Dylan; grandmother, Carol Collins; grandparents, James and Olive Morgan, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The funeral service for Roger H. Knutson, 76, of Stewartville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Byron Meline and the Rev.
