ATHENS, Greece – The U.S. Cadet women’s team sent three of four wrestlers to the second day of competition, including Emily Shilson and Alara Boyd, who earned bids to the World finals.
The championship matches are set for Thursday night at 6 p.m. local time (11 a.m. ET).
Shilson put an exclamation point on an already impressive day when she earned a 10-0 technical fall over Ukraine’s Karina Chornomor in the 43 kg/95 lbs. semifinals.
Shilson’s low single was her weapon of choice, picking up three in the first period, accompanied with two leg lace turns to end the match in 1:31 and send her to the finals in her first Cadet World Championships. Continue reading at www.teamusa.org
Centennial High junior Emily Shilson is representing Team USA at the Cadet World Championships in Athens, Greece this week. Her father Chad is part of the coaching staff with Team USA and is one of the active people within Wrestle Like A Girl trying to get state high school associations to start sponsoring girls wrestling at the high school level.

ATHENS, Greece – Two U.S. women’s wrestlers, Alara Boyd and Emily Shilson, advanced to the semifinals in the first day of women’s action of the 2017 Cadet World Championships in Athens, Greece, on Wednesday morning.
Medal hopes for all four of the today’s U.S. wrestlers remain alive.
2016 Cadet World bronze medalist Boyd advanced to the 65 kg/145 lbs. semifinals after a strong showing in the morning session.
In her first match, she faced 2016 Cadet World bronze medalist and 2017 Cadet European champion Oksana Chudyk of Ukraine. With a 1-0 lead for Boyd after the break, the two wrestlers exchanged takedowns, but late exposure for the American sealed the 5-2 win. Continue reading at www.teamusa.org
ATHENS, Greece – The U.S. Cadet women’s freestyle team is set to begin its 2017 Cadet World Championships in Athens, Greece, after receiving draws for Wednesday’s competition.
Emily Shilson, a two-time Cadet freestyle national champion and two-time Junior national champion, will open her first World tournament against Aldynai Darzhaa of Russia at 43 kg/95 lbs.
2015 Cadet World Team member Vayle Baker returns to the big stage and will represent the USA at 49 kg/108 lbs., where she will face hometown favorite Maria Triantafyllidou of Greece in her first match. Continue reading at www.teamusa.org
She’s been on the wrestling mat since about age 5 and has an impressive resume in the sport.
Emily Shilson of Maple Grove, who will be a junior at Centennial High School, has hopes of making the U.S. Olympic women’s wrestling team in 2020.
Shilson, who became the second girl to qualify for the state high school tournament in Minnesota while competing against boys last season, is ranked No. 1 in her weight class in the country. She’s done some training with the women’s national team in Colorado Springs this summer. Continue reading
