Shilson, Baker, Figueroa and Boyd receive draws for Cadet Women’s World Championships

ATHENS, Greece – The U.S. Cadet women’s freestyle team is set to begin its 2017 Cadet World Championships in Athens, Greece, after receiving draws for Wednesday’s competition.

Emily Shilson, a two-time Cadet freestyle national champion and two-time Junior national champion, will open her first World tournament against Aldynai Darzhaa of Russia at 43 kg/95 lbs.

2015 Cadet World Team member Vayle Baker returns to the big stage and will represent the USA at 49 kg/108 lbs., where she will face hometown favorite Maria Triantafyllidou of Greece in her first match. Continue reading at www.teamusa.org

Maple Grove girl among nation’s top wrestlers

She’s been on the wrestling mat since about age 5 and has an impressive resume in the sport.

Emily Shilson of Maple Grove, who will be a junior at Centennial High School, has hopes of making the U.S. Olympic women’s wrestling team in 2020.

Shilson, who became the second girl to qualify for the state high school tournament in Minnesota while competing against boys last season, is ranked No. 1 in her weight class in the country. She’s done some training with the women’s national team in Colorado Springs this summer.
