Simley captures another 2A crown to cap convincing year

Spartans crushed Fairmont/Martin County West in the final to cap a dominant season.

After a decisive victory over Marshall in last year’s state title match, Simley entered this season as the unquestioned top team in Class 2A.

A 48-10 victory over Fairmont/Martin County West in the state final Thursday at Xcel Energy Center assured it will stay that way until next year.

It’s Simley’s eighth title in the past 13 years and 13th overall.

College Recruiting: two-time state entrant Simmonds to Augustana University

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Augustana wrestling head coach Jason Reitmeier announced the signing of Nathan Simmonds Tuesday. Simmonds, a senior at Martin County West High School in Truman, Minnesota, will enroll as a freshman at Augustana in the fall of 2020.

“Our coaching staff and athletes are excited to have Nathan join our team next fall,” Reitmeier said. “Nathan is a great athlete who excels in all positions. Nathan has had success in all styles of wrestling and has a passion for the sport. We love his attitude and skillset and look forward to working with him next year.”

Viking Wrestling Signs Payton Anderson

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Augustana wrestling team announced the signing of Sherburn, Minnesota, native Payton Anderson Monday morning. Anderson is currently a senior at Martin County West High School and will enroll as a freshman at Augustana in the fall of 2020.

“We are excited to welcome Payton to the Augustana wrestling family,” head coach Jason Reitmeier said. “Payton is exactly what we look for in a student-athlete; smart, athletic and tough. Payton comes from a great wrestling program and is a great leader as well. All the coaches look forward to working with Payton next year.”
