Meet The Gopher Freshmen: Gabe Nagel

Freshman introductions continue as we highlight our first Minnesota native from the recent class

Our Meet the Freshman series rolls on as we introduce another member of the 2021 incoming class. Next up is state champion, three-time state finalist, and Little Falls, Minn., native Gabe Nagel.

GopherSports: First question, just talk about why you chose the University of Minnesota?
Nagel: Yeah, I mean some of my earliest memories of watching the Gophers was in 2012 with guys like Dylan Ness, Scott Schiller, the Dardanes brothers, you know, so growing up the Gophers have always been at the top for me. Flyers’ Nagel becomes all-time pins and wins leader

Gabe Nagel keeps breaking records.

The Little Falls senior wrestler added another Flyers’ record to his name last week earning his 118th pin against Zimmerman.

“It was exciting,” Nagel said. “It’s been a goal for a while now and it’s cool to finally reach that benchmark. It was pretty routine. I don’t tend to get nervous before matches.”

That week Nagel also picked up wins against Buffalo and Willmar.

“Coming into his senior season he had many, many goals and one of those goals was to get that record,” Little Falls head coach Mike Hendrickson said. “We are very happy we have a season and that Gabe can play out his goals.” Continue reading at →

Nagel signs letter to wrestle for Gophers

With the current season on pause, Little Falls senior wrestler Gabe Nagel focused his eyes even further in the future.

Nagel signed his letter of intent to wrestle at Division I University of Minnesota, Nov. 17.

“Now signing and making it official, it is definitely starting to feel more real,” Nagel said. “I’ll be a Gopher in a year, and I’ll be down there wearing the maroon and gold. It is kind of a cool feeling.”

Nagel had verbally committed to the Gophers prior to last winter. It was following a Class 3A State Title as a sophomore in 2019. Nagel has been training with the Gophers for nearly a year now, and though practices have been different, due to COVID-19, Nagel said that the Gophers have been there for him. Continue reading at →
