Greg Kerkvliet has a time frame when he will return to competition.
That is positive thought for the two-time Cadet World finalist and 2017 Cadet World champion from Simley (Minn.) High School.
It is been almost four full months since Kerkvliet suffered an ACL injury in September while preparing for the Junior World Championships and the recovery time has had its positives and negatives.
“I’d say realizing how much being on the mat means to a person, just wanting to do anything to get back on the mat,” Kerkvliet said of the most challenging part of the rehab process. Continue reading at trackwrestling.com

ASICS America Corporation is pleased to announce the 33rd annual ASICS Boys All-America Wrestling Team, and honors senior Gable Steveson (285) of Apple Valley (Minn.) and junior Adam Busiello (126) of Eastport (N.Y.) Eastport-South Manor as repeat First Team selections.
The ASICS All-America Team, selected by a nationwide panel of wrestling experts, is the only national all-star team for which wrestlers enrolled in all four high-school grades are eligible.
The ASICS All-America Team includes eight wrestlers at each of the 14 high school weight classes – the First, Second, and Third Teams and five Honorable Mention selections. To be considered, a wrestler must have competed during the scholastic season, and all team members were selected at the weight class at which they competed, or would have competed, in their state tournament or the National Prep Championships this year. A trip to Pinnacle Wrestling School on a Tuesday evening will bring all sorts of characters to the mats. On Episode 43 of The Guillotine Grapevine podcast, we’ll talk with Cadet World champion Greg Kerkvliet and Shakopee state runner-up Paxton Creese on their preparation for the upcoming summer circuit.
Kerkvliet will try to make both the Cadet and Junior World teams, while Creese is also gearing up for a trip to Guatemala for the Cadet Pan Am Championships.
In the lore of Minnesota wrestling, Friday, February 2 might go down as one of the most important in the state’s history. Not because the dual outcome impacted a state or sectional title, but because you saw two world champions collide as two of the state’s power programs met in front of a capacity crowd at Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights.
Episode 40 of The Guillotine Grapevine goes before and after the Gable Steveson-Greg Kerkvliet super match. Steveson, a three-time world champion at the international age-group levels at heavyweight faced off with Simley 220-pounder Kerkvliet, the 2017 Cadet world champion at 100kg.
We talk with fathers Robert Steveson, Greg Kerkvliet, then we talk with the combatants before finishing up with Simley AD and wrestling coach Will Short about setting up the match.
