SJU’s Batsukh ’11 Elected to NWCA Division III Hall of Fame

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn.— Former Saint John’s University national-champion wrestler Minga Batsukh ’11 will be among seven individuals inducted into the Division III National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA) Hall of Fame during the NWCA’s annual convention on Friday, July 28, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Batsukh is the fifth Johnnie elected to a wrestling hall of fame. John Elton ’80 and Brandon Novak ’01 were inducted into the Division III NWCA Hall of Fame in 2007 and 2017, respectively, while Terry Haws and Fr. Otto Weber ’57 received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Minnesota chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2008 and 2019.

Bill Schmidt to enter Winona High Athletic Hall of Fame

Long-time Winona Coach Bill Schmidt is being inducted into the Winona High School Athletic Hall of fame on October 8th, 2022. Other inductees are Al Nordsving, Joe Alexander, and Abby Staats.

Schmidt is already a Hall of Famer having been inducted into the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Dave Bartelma Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2019 and the Minnesota Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2020.

Longtime Huskies Wrestling supporter John A. Peterson inducted into UWW Hall of Fame

The two-time Olympic Medalist among nine legendary wrestlers to enter the Hall

BELGRADE, Serbia – Longtime St. Cloud State Wrestling supporter John A. Peterson was inducted into the United World Wrestling (UWW) Hall of Fame on Friday. A legendary Freestyle wrestler, Peterson earned Gold at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and Silver at the 1972 Munich Olympics. He also earned a silver and a bronze at the World Championships while adding three World Cup Golds.

In his time with St. Cloud State, Peterson served as a volunteer assistant coach focusing on student-athletes’ personal development. His first season with the program was the 2009-10 campaign.

Gopher Athletics Set to Induct 13 New Members into M Club Hall of Fame

The University of Minnesota’s M Club, one of the nation’s largest and oldest varsity letterwinner clubs, will induct 13 new Hall of Fame members on Sept. 16, 2022, in an in-person ceremony on Williams Arena court. The individuals will be recognized throughout the weekend at various events, including the Sept. 17 home Gopher football game against Colorado.

Augsburg alums LeVesseur, Lewandowski to be named to NWCA D-III Hall of Fame

MINNEAPOLIS — Augsburg University men’s wrestling alumni Marcus LeVesseur ’07 and Nik Lewandowski ’01, key members of one of the most successful eras of Auggie wrestling history, will be inducted into the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Hall of Fame during a ceremony in July in Ponte Verde Beach, Fla., it was announced on Monday. The induction ceremony will take place on July 30 at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort and Spa during the NWCA’s annual convention.

Both four-time All-Americans, LeVesseur won four NCAA Division III national championships (2003, 2004, 2005, 2007) and went a perfect 155-0 in his career, while Lewandowski won a national title in 2001 while finishing second twice (1998, 1999) and third once (2000), going 124-34 in his career.

LeVesseur and Lewandowski’s inductions bring the number of Augsburg wrestlers inducted into the NWCA Division III Wrestling Hall of Fame to 10, joining Dan Lewandowski ’97 in 2003, Gary Kroells ’93 in 2005, John Beatty ’90 in 2007, Steve Gliva ’85 in 2010, Nick Fornicoia ’93 in 2011, Joe Hoialmen ’93 in 2012, Jesse Armbruster ’96 in 2014 and Henry Gerten ’98 in 2016. Three Augsburg coaches have also earned NWCA Division III Wrestling Hall of Fame honors — 10-time national champion head coach Jeff Swenson ’79 in 2005, longtime assistant coach Scott Whirley ’82 in 2016, and longtime assistant coach Donny Wichmann ’89 in 2019.

Hall of Fame Welcomes 2007-2008 Minnesota State Wrestling Team

The 2007-2008 Minnesota State wrestling team was recently inducted into The Minnesota State Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Mavericks had many outstanding accomplishments that season, including a memorable runner-up finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships. Winning individual national titles that season for Minnesota State was Jason Rhoten and Andy Pickar. Five others achieved All-American status – Nick Smith, John Putman, Travis Elg, Tommy Abbott, and Brady Wilson.

The team had a 20-1-1 dual meet record, establishing a school record for wins in a season.

Gopher Athletics Set to Induct 10 New Members into M Club Hall of Fame

The University of Minnesota’s M Club, one of the nation’s largest and oldest varsity letterwinner clubs, will induct 10 new Hall of Fame members on September 10, 2021, in an in-person ceremony on Williams Arena court. The individuals will be recognized throughout the weekend at various events, including the Sept. 11 home football game against Miami (OH). It marks the first hall of fame induction since 2018.
