Gophers win five bouts but early pins prove costly
The No. 1 Minnesota Wrestling team was edged by No. 3 Oklahoma State, 22-15, this afternoon at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn. Despite missing three of their starters, the Gophers managed to win five bouts in the contest, but suffered two falls in the middle weight classes to give the Cowboys bonus points in the team total. With its first loss of the season, Minnesota falls to 6-1 overall, while Oklahoma State picks up its second win in as many duals. Continue reading
Teams meet in rematch of 2012 National Duals Championship
The No. 1 Minnesota Wrestling team has an early test this Sunday when it welcomes no. 3 Oklahoma State to the Sports Pavilion. The Gophers and the Cowboys will face off at 1:00 p.m. in a rematch of the 2012 National Dual Championship, where the Maroon and Gold prevailed with a score of 18-13 to capture the title. The fans in Minnesota are in for a treat when the Cowboys ride into to town this coming Sunday. Last time these two met the National Dual championship was on the line. Minnesota came away with the win and the title. From a dual perspective, these two match up well. The question is if either team will have their best lineup for this match. Dylan Ness has yet to take to the mat for Minnesota and Logan Storley had appeared to suffer some kind of lower body injury last weekend. On the other side, NCAA Champion Jordan Oliver sat out last week for disciplinary reasons and we suspect he will be back for this. In addition, Josh kindig was absent from the roster last week, but we think he may be finally taking his redshirt year anyways. No matter who wrestles, this should be an exciting dual that most likely will be decided by bonus points. Of the 20 wrestlers, 16 are currently ranked in the top 20. Two Minnesota duals will be broadcast on BTN; all others streamed live online
The Big Ten Network has announced its plans for broadcasting during the 2012-13 season. For the Gophers, the television schedule includes a Monday night meet live in primetime; a Saturday showdown between Minnesota and Iowa, and live coverage of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships. All other home duals with be streamed live through Gopher All-Access and will be available by subscription. Continue reading
