Minnesota loses its first dual of the season

No. 2 Minnesota split a pair of duals on its road trip to Michigan over the weekend.

The Gophers fell to No. 19 Michigan 19-14 on Sunday afternoon, just two days after they dominated Michigan State 35-3.

The Gophers (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) fell behind early Sunday after losing five of the first six matches against Michigan (7-2, 3-0 Big Ten), but they won three straight matches down the stretch to pull within two points heading into the heavyweight bout. Continue reading at mndaily.com

Despite a late comeback, Minnesota falls to Wolverines

MINNEAPOLIS – In their fifth Big Ten dual of the season, the No. 2 University of Minnesota Golden Gopher wrestling team fell for the first time this season in dual competition as they were defeated by Michigan, 19-14. The Golden Gophers are now 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in Big Ten Competition.

As expected, the dual started at 125 as Sam Brancale kicked things off for the Golden Gophers. Brancale was coming off a win over Michigan State’s Brenan Lyon on Friday evening. Despite a tough battle, Brancale was unable to defeat his Michigan opponent, Conor Youtsey. Youtsey won by a 12-6 decision as Brancale was able to save his team the point of the major decision. Minnesota dominates Michigan State

MINNEAPOLIS — The No. 2 University of Minnesota Golden Gopher wrestling team extended their undefeated season record as they steamrolled the Michigan State Spartans, 35-3, winning nine of the ten bouts on the evening. The Golden Gophers are now 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Big Ten.

Sam Brancale made his way back into the lineup at 125 as he was able to start the dual off with a decision over Brenan Lyon of MIchigan State, 7-1. Continue reading
