Minnesota State heads to NCAA Super Region V Championships

Mankato, Minn. – Minnesota State (7-6, 4-5 NSIC) travels to Minot, N.D. this weekend to start its postseason competition, starting with the NCAA Division II Super Region V Championships on Saturday.

Super Region V hosts all nine Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Teams and is the qualifying competition for NCAA Division II wrestling championships. These championships will be hosted in Park City, Kan. Mar. 15-16th, where the top three individuals from each weight class at the regional events will compete.

In 2023, the Mavericks qualified 285-lb. senior Darrell Mason to the NCAA Division II National Championships. Mason went on to secure All-American status for the third time and placed third overall.

UW Parkside Downs Maverick In Regular Season Finale

KENOSHA, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin Parkside won eight of ten matches – five of which came with bonus points – en route to a 33-6 victory of Minnesota State Friday evening in the final regular season dual of the season for the Mavericks.

Minnesota State picked up its first win of the dual at 165 pounds when sophomore Kole Marko earned a 4-1 sudden victory win. Marko and the Ranger’s Brady Schuh traded escapes in the second and third periods before Marko registered a takedown in overtime to secure the victory.

Minnesota State Travels to No. 5 UW-Parkside

Minnesota State travels to Kenosha, Wis. tomorrow, Feb. 23rd, to face the Rangers at 7:00 p.m. for their last regular season dual.

About UW-Parkside: The No. 5 Rangers are currently 9-1 overall and 7-1 in the NSIC, with their only loss to St. Cloud State (6-27). UW-Parkside is coached by Nick Becker. Throughout his two years with the Rangers, he’s amassed a 14-5 record, along with a third-place finish at NCAA II Regionals. UW-Parkside also has six ranked wrestlers, including No. 3 Shane Corrigan (125) and No. 3 Cayden Henschel (141).

Bronchos hold top spot in DII Men’s Coaches Poll heading into postseason

MANHEIM, Pa. – Heading into the 2024 postseason, the Central Oklahoma Bronchos are still the top team in NCAA Division II men’s wrestling, according to the latest edition of the National Wrestling Coaches Association DII Men’s poll, released Monday afternoon.

UCO topped the poll with 87 total points behind a poll-high eight ranked wrestlers. The Bronchos, along with #2 Lander, also feature a poll-high two top-ranked wrestlers in defending National Champions Dalton Abney at 197 and Shawn Streck at 285. Lander comes in at #2 with 80 total points and seven ranked wrestlers, highlighted by James Joplin (125) and David Hunsberger (165) at #1 in their respective weight classes.

Augustana made the jump from #14 to #3 in this edition of the poll, amassing 67 total points behind seven ranked individuals. St. Cloud State is in the four-spot with 57 points, with UW-Parkside and McKendree tied in the fifth spot with 48 team points each.
