Mavericks Finish Regular Season with 27-8 Win Over Wolves

MANKATO, Minn. — The No. 17 Minnesota State wrestling team concluded the regular season with a 27-8 win over the No. 23 Northern State Wolves on Saturday at Taylor Center.

Prior to the dual, four senior student-athletes, Lucas Hagel, Zach Johnston, Logan Saltou and Louie Sanders, were honored for their accomplishments as a Maverick wrestler.

With the win, the Mavericks finish with a 10-3 (6-2 NSIC) record, while the Wolves fall to 9-7 (2-5 NSIC).

Augustana Wrestling Takes Down No. 17 Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. — The Augustana wrestling team recorded its fifth win over nationally-ranked opponents Friday night in the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minnesota. The Vikings defeated the Minnesota State Mavericks 24-13 to move to 10-3 on the season and 6-1 in the NSIC.

“We showed a lot of heart tonight,” head coach Jason Reitmeier said. “I’m proud of the effort, this team is resilient and nothing keeps them down.”

Junior Ethan Cota started the night off with a narrow victory in the 125 pound bout. Trailing 3-2 with less than a minute to go in the final period, Cota took his opponent down and recorded enough riding time to get the extra point and win 5-3.

Minnesota State 22 Upper Iowa 15

#17 Mavericks Handle #10 Peacocks

FAYETTE, Iowa — The No. 17 Minnesota State wrestling team took on the No. 10 Upper Iowa Peacocks Friday night inside Dorman Memorial Gymnasium, earning a 22-15 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win.

With the win, the Mavericks improve to 9-2 (5-1 NSIC), while the Peacocks fall to 12-4 (5-2 NSIC).

MSU won six of the 10 bouts, with all three ranked wrestlers coming out on top for the Mavericks.

Scott Tops No. 3 Nationally Ranked Wrestler in MSUM Wrestling’s 36-12 Loss to No. 17 Mavericks

MANKATO, Minn. — Senior Zach Scott defeated the No. 3-ranked wrestler in the nation, but it wasn’t enough for the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team fell to No. 17 Minnesota State, Mankato 36-12 in action Thursday night in Mankato, Minn.

Scott’s win at 149 highlighted the night for MSUM. He improved to 17-11 with a pin of No. 3-ranked Kyle Rathman in 6:12 to get the Dragons on the board in the dual. MSU won by technical fall at 125 and by forfeit at 133 and 141 to build a 17-0 lead; Scott’s pin brought MSUM within 17-6.
