Moorhead, Minn. — The Minnesota State wrestling team qualified two individuals to the NCAA Division II National Championship as the 14th-rated Mavericks finished in sixth place in the team standings at the 2022 NCAA Division II Super Region V tournament held in Moorhead, Minn. Saturday.
Earning trips to the national meet claiming the regional title was junior Darrell Mason (285 lbs.), and senior Trevor Turriff (174 lbs.) who finished second place.
Mason, rated eighth in NCAA Division II coming into the weekend, is now 18-0 on the year after picking up four consecutive wins for the regional championship. The Chicago, Illinois native picked up a 13-6 decision over Samuel Grove (MSU Moorhead) and a 16-6 major decision over Joshua Trumble (Northern St.). In the Semifinal Mason won by 5-2 decision over Jacob Dykes (Southwest Minn. St.) before gaining a 2-1 tiebreaker – 1 win in the championship match vs. St. Cloud State’s #2 Kameron Teacher.
