St. Cloud State 33, Minnesota State 3

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (14-0, 6-0 NSIC) rolled to a convincing 33-3 victory over #17 Minnesota State University on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Mankato, Minn.

SCSU won nine of 10 matches in the NSIC dual, which is the Huskies’ 62nd consecutive victory dating back to the 2016-17 season. The Huskies will now prepare for a trip to the Dan Parker Open, which will be hosted by UW-Eau Claire in Eau Claire, Wisc. on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The Huskies’ lone loss of the day at MSU was a setback at 125-pounds, but #2 Garrett Vos quickly got things rolling with a tech fall win at 6:21 (18-0) over MSU’s Cole Gille at 133-pounds.

Minnesota State 31 Southwest Minnesota State 8

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (3-6, 2-4 NSIC) fell to No. 17 Minnesota State (7-1, 3-0 NSIC), 31-8, on Thursday night in the PE Gym.

SMSU claimed two bout victories in the dual, the first a win by tech fall at 133 as Jackson Stauffacher defeated MSU’s Cole Gille.

Johnston Named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

MANKATO, Minn. — Senior Zach Johnston earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week honors after earning a pair of individual wins in the Mavericks’ wins over U-Mary and No. 23 Minot State.

Johnston, a Waukee, Iowa native, improved to 13-4 on the season. The 174-pounder, who holds the No. 10 ranking, posted a 6-2 upset win over No. 7 Phillip Springsteen of U-Mary in the Mavericks’ 29-12 win over the Marauders. He also cruised to a 19-4 technical fall win over Joey Lopez of Minot State as the Mavericks topped the Beavers 27-13.

Minnesota State 27 Minot State 13

MINOT, N.D. — The No. 17 Minnesota State wrestling team (6-1, 2-0 NSIC) notched its second Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual win Saturday afternoon, defeating the No. 23 Minot State Beavers (4-5, 1-3 NSIC), 27-13, inside the Minot State Dome.

The Mavericks fell behind 7-0 after the first two matches. At 125 lbs., Trenton McManus lost an 11-5 decision to No. 6 Dean Arevalo. Cole Gille then fell to Oscar Nellis by a 14-2 major decision.
