Reno, Nevada — Minnesota State traveled to the Silver State to compete in the Reno Tournament of Champions. Dubbed as the “toughest tournament in the USA,” MSU finished in 19th-place with many of the nation’s top programs represented at the RTOC.
Cedar Falls, Iowa – The No. 9 Minnesota State wrestling team traveled to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the UNI Open Saturday. The Mavericks placed two wrestlers in a tournament littered with Division I teams. Junior David Demo (125 lbs) and freshman Alphonso Vruno (133 lbs) were the two Mavericks to place in the highly-competitive tournament.
Edmond, Okla. — Minnesota State debuts at No. 9 in the first installment of the NCAA Division II wrestling regular season rankings issued by the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association. The Mavericks garnered 83 points and jumps to No. 9 after being ranked No. 13 in the preseason poll.

Mankato, Minn. — Minnesota State was victorious in the first nine bouts en route to defeating Newman University 42-3 in a nonconference tilt. Included in the nine victories were two falls, a technical fall, a major decision and junior Brendan Eichmann’s 5-3 decision overtime thriller at 174 lbs.
Mankato, Minn. – Head wrestling coach Jim Makovsky has announced that five prep athletes have signed their national letters of intent to attend Minnesota State University.
Commiting to MSU during the early signing period are Adam Cooling (Madelia, Minn.), Weston Droegemueller (Wayzata, Minn.), Gabe Flandrick (New Richmond, Wis.), Tanner Mills (Albertville, Minn.) and Darick Vancura (Jackson, Minn.). All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
State champions Darick Vancura of Jackson County Central and Adam Cooling of Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther and state placer Tanner Mills of Saint Michael-Albertville have chosen to wrestle for Minnesota State University, Mankato following their upcoming senior seasons.
