NWCA NCAA DII Rankings – February 18, 2022

MANHEIM, Penn.- In the final NCAA Division II Coaches Rankings prior to the postseason, Central Oklahoma held on to the top spot with 119 total points. The Bronchos feature three of Division II’s number one wrestlers and widened their gap on reigning National Champions St. Cloud State with Super Regionals looming next weekend.

The Huskies stay in the top spot with 103 total points. The entire top five was unchanged from the last poll, with Nebraska-Kearney (100 points), West Liberty (58 points), and McKendree (56 points) representing the third, fourth and fifth spots yet again.

There are four new number ones in this edition of the poll, with Brik Filippo of Central Oklahoma taking over the top spot at 149 and 2019 National Champion and 2021 National Finalist Connor Craig moving to #1 at 184. A pair of UNK Lopers took over the top spots at 165 and 174, with 2019 National Champion Matt Malcom sitting atop the newest 165 rankings, while teammate Austin Eldredge takes the top spot at 174 after coming down from competing at 184 earlier this season.

St. Cloud State 40 MSU Moorhead 4

No. 2 Huskies flatten Dragons 40-4

St. Cloud, Minn. – No. 2 St. Cloud State Wrestling won nine of ten bouts with a whopping eight bonus-point wins in a 40-4 demolition of Minnesota State University Moorhead on Thursday evening, opening their two-dual home week with a thunderous victory. Anthony Herrera scored a pin at 157, Kameron Teacher (HWT), Paxton Creese (125) and Nick Novak (149) added tech falls while Joseph Bianchini (141), Dominic Murphy (174), Billy Pitzner (184) and Noah Ryan (197) supplied major decisions.

Dragons Wrap Up Regular Season Thursday at St. Cloud State

MOORHEAD, Minn. — The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team heads to St. Cloud to face off against the No. 2-ranked Huskies on Thursday at 7 p.m. This matchup will be the last dual of the 2021-22 regular season for the Dragons.

The Dragons lost at No. 17 Minnesota State and Upper Iowa University last weekend. Against Upper Iowa, freshman Clayson Mele, junior Cole Jones, and junior Samuel Grove picked up wins for MSUM.

Upper Iowa 34 MSU Moorhead 9

Dragons Drop 34-9 Dual at Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa – The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team won three matches but came up short in a 34-9 dual loss at Upper Iowa on Saturday in Fayette, Iowa.

Freshman Clayson Mele got the Dragons on the board at 125 with a 10-5 win over Upper Iowa’s Philip Ihde.

“Clayson wrestled a hard-fought match at 125 and was tough in the top position, nearly getting the fall,” MSUM head coach Kris Nelson said.

Minnesota State 41 MSU-Moorhead 6

Mankato, Minn. — 17th-rated Minnesota State Mavericks down the winless MSU-Moorhead Dragons by a 41-6 margin in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual held in Mankato, Minn. Friday evening.

With the victory, the Mavericks improve to (2-2, 2-2 NSIC), while the Dragons fall to (0-7,0-6 NSIC).

The Mavericks came away with nine wins in the ten matches of the night.
