Dragons Finish Homestand Hosting Concordia College

MOORHEAD, Minn. — MSU Moorhead wrestling will complete their four-dual homestand this Friday as the Dragons host Eighth Street neighbor Concordia College beginning at 7 p.m.

MSUM last competed in a pair of home duals against fourth-ranked Parkside and Sioux Falls. The Dragons fell to the Rangers on Friday before turning in a resilient performance against the Coo on Saturday. MSUM dropped the first three matches of the dual against the Cougars and trailed 16-0 on the scoreboard. From there, the Dragons would rally back to win the final seven matches and the dual, 29-16. Will Price and Airin Spell helped cap the win for MSUM with pins at their respective weight classes, with Price’s performance giving the Dragons the lead in the team scoring. Isaiah Huus added in five team points at 197 pounds with a 16-1 tech fall victory, his first of the season.

Dragon Wrestling Storms Back to Defeat Sioux Falls

MOORHEAD, Minn. – MSU Moorhead wrestling would win the final seven matches in dual competition against Sioux Falls on Saturday evening as the Dragons claimed a 29-16 victory over the Coo.

MSUM would fall down by 16 team points early as the Dragons struggled at the lighter weights before Gunnar Mogen stepped to the mat at 149 pounds. Mogen would earn two takedowns in his match with Cooper Sanders while also snagging four near fall points. The junior provided some needed team points for the Dragons, picking up a bonus point in a 13-9 decision win. Cody Wienen and Jacob Reinardy would each follow suit with decision wins at 157 pounds and 165 pounds. Both Wienen and Reinardy used near fall points to their advantage as they would combine for six across the two matches. The victories also pulled the Dragons closer in the team race, 16-9.

Huus Claims Victory In Dual Against Fourth-Ranked Rangers

MOORHEAD, Minn. – MSU Moorhead wrestling was led by 197-pounder Isaiah Huus on Friday evening in dual action against fourth-ranked Parkside. While Huus claimed his 19th victory of the year, MSUM fell to the Rangers, 42-3.

Hunter Heim would open up the dual for MSUM at 125 pounds against third-ranked Shane Corrigan of Parkside. Heim would get the Dragons fans hollering almost immediately with a pickup slam and, later, a pair of takedowns. Heim battled in the first period with Corrigan but would eventually fall by a major decision, 21-8.

Dragon Wrestling Hosts Pair of Duals This Weekend

MOORHEAD, Minn. — MSU Moorhead wrestling continues their string of home duals as the Dragons are set to scuffle with fourth-ranked Parkside at 7 p.m. on Friday before taking on Sioux Falls at 2 p.m. Saturday.

MSUM last wrestled on Thursday in a 30-6 dual loss to Minnesota State. In the dual, Thomas Carrillo extended his winning streak to three matches with a decision victory. Gunnar Mogen would follow suit with a decision win of his own at 149 pounds. MSUM also had a small contingenet competing at the annual Tyler Plummer Classic in Dickinson, N.D., on Saturday. The Dragons were led by unattached 125-pounder Clayson Mele, who won his weight division with a perfect record on the day.

Trio of Dragons Perform Strong at Tyler Plummer Classic

DICKINSON, N.D. — MSU Moorhead sent a trio of wrestlers to the annual Tyler Plummer Classic in Dickinson, N.D., on Saturday. The Dragons fielded one unattached champion, 125-pounder Clayson Mele.

Mele would earn the tournament victory with four consecutive victories as Mele opened the morning with a decision victory over Mary’s Isaac Stewart. Mele racked up 18 points in the match to begin the day. The 125-pounder would go on to earn a pinfall at 2:34 in the second round against Mary’s Austin Berry. After a medical forfeit in his third match, Mele matched up with Dickinson State’s Wyatt Engwicht in the tournament final. Mele would again rack up the points to claim the championship, earning a 23-9 major decision win.

Minnesota State 30, MSU Moorhead 6

Mavericks Beat Dragons in Road Dual

Moorhead, Minn. – Minnesota State won its first NSIC dual this evening, 31-6, against MSU Moorhead.

Freshman Lucas Ryan started the dual strong with a major decision win at 125 pounds. After a decision loss at 133 pounds for MSU, junior Trayton Anderson came in at 141 pounds for a shutout 5-0 decision win against MSU Moorhead’s Hunter Hayes. MSU Moorhead picked up its final win of the evening at 149 pounds before the Mavericks rattled off six straight victories.

Sophomore 157-pounder Caleb Meunier started the winning streak with a 12-3 major decision.
