NWCA Releases Final NCAA Division II Men’s Rankings

MANHEIM, Pa. – With the NCAA Division II National Championships coming for 50 of NCAA DII’s 64 teams, the top two ranked teams in the NWCA Division II Coaches Rankings stayed the same. Central Oklahoma held the top spot heading into the season’s final event in the rankings compiled from the DII ranking committee’s seeding released Friday afternoon.

The Bronchos, fresh off of a team win at the Super Region 4 Championships, have a DII-best 10 Nationa Qualifiers, with nine seeded in the top 8 and another at #9 for all 10 UCO starters adding to the 104 points amassed by the top vote-getters. Lander (84 points), who won the Super Region 2 championship last week, holds at #2 after qualifying nine wrestlers, seven of which are seeded in the top 8 for next weekend’s National Championships. St. Cloud State and UW-Parkside both totaled 67 points to tie for the third-place spot, with Adams State rounding out the top 5 with 61 total points.

Baguma and Castro Lead Dragon Charge at NCAA Super Regional V

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Andre Baguma finished fourth, while Anthony Castro finished fifth in the NCAA Super Regional V tournament to lead MSUM in postseason competition.

Both would reach the championships semifinals.

Castro utilized a pin in his first match to create some momentum that would carry him to the semifinal before falling to UMary’s Max Bruss. Castro eventually ended up in the fifth-place match with Southwest Minnesota State’s Elijah Sterner. Castro would end his career with a decision win over Sterner to place fifth.

Dragons Set to Scuffle at NCAA Division II Super Region V

MOORHEAD, Minn. — MSUM wrestling will travel to Aberdeen, S.D., on Saturday, February 25, for the NCAA Division II Super Region V meet. Hosted by Northern State, the meet will determine which wrestlers will make the cut for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships.

Action is set to begin from Wachs Arena at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Teams competing at the meet will be MSUM, Parkside, UMary, St. Cloud State, Minnesota State, Upper Iowa, Minot State, Northern State, Augustana, and Southwest Minnesota State.

NWCA NCAA DII Rankings – February 17, 2023

MANHEIM, Pa.- Heading into the postseason, the Central Oklahoma Bronchos narrowly held onto the top spot in Division II wrestling, in the latest edition of the NWCA Division II Coaches Poll, released Jan. 20 by the Association.

Just two points separate the Bronchos from #2 Lander, with UCO coming in with 82 points and the Bearcats 80. Central Oklahoma has a poll-high nine ranked wrestlers, highlighted by the nation’s top heavyweight in Shawn Streck. St. Cloud State and West Liberty are tied for the third place spot (64 points), with defending National Champion Nebraska-Kearney rounding out the top five with 59 points.

Behind UCO’s nine ranked wrestlers, the Huskies of St. Cloud State have eight ranked individuals, highlighted by 2021 National Champion Abner Romero in the top spot at 174. Lander features seven ranked wrestlers, led by reigning National Champion Zeth Brower at the top of the 141 ranking.
