Dragons End Regular Season with Loss to Seventh-Ranked Rangers
KENOSHA, Wis. — In the final regular season dual of the season, MSU Moorhead wrestling was outpaced by seventh-ranked Parkside. Anthony Castro and Andre Baguma picked up decision wins as the Rangers won the dual 36-6.
Thomas Carrillo would grab two takedowns and four escapes in his 133-pound bout with Joey Roti. Carillo would score a takedown to tie the match at eight with just under 10 seconds remaining. However, Roti would utilize a bonus point to take a 9-8 decision win.
Anthony Castro picked up his second win of the week with a 7-3 decision over Parkside’s Drake Regenhardt. The senior scored two takedowns, an escape and a bonus point thanks to over 90 seconds of riding time.
MSUM Closes Regular Season at Seventh-Ranked Parkside
MOORHEAD, Minn. — MSU Moorhead wrestling will close the 2022-23 regular season with a trip to Kenosha, Wis., for a dual with the seventh-ranked Parkside Rangers. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Dragons are coming off a dual loss to Northern State last Thursday before battling Dickinson State on Tuesday evening. In the loss to the Wolves, Hunter Hayes and Andre Baguma picked up major decision wins for MSUM. Baguma had seven takedowns in his 18-8 win over Nathan Schauer, while Hayes managed four takedowns in a 10-1 win over Robert Coyle. Baguma has won three of his last four matches since cracking the starting lineup on January 27 against St. Cloud State. The win for Hayes was his third major decision win of the season.
MSUM defeated Dickinson State 35-9 on Tuesday evening to secure their second win of the season. Seven Dragons picked up wins in the dual, led by pins from Baguma and Anthony Castro. Thomas Carrillo, Hayes and Jonas Anez scored major decision wins in the dual, while Clayson Mele won by technical fall.

Dragons Start Fast, Finish Strong in Win Over Blue Hawks
DICKINSON, N.D. — From top to bottom, MSU Moorhead wrestling came out to a blazing start and was strong throughout in a 35-9 dual win over Dickinson State.
“Guys wrestled hard from the first match of the night to the last. We started the night out with senior Cody Dravis getting an exhibition match which he got a pin in and then Andre Baguma ended it with a pin at heavyweight,” said MSUM head coach Kris Nelson. “We were on the offensive in the majority of the matches and worked to get bonus points which we got in six of the 10 matches. We won the first seven matches and our intensity throughout the dual was high.”
Clayson Mele opened the dual with a bang for the Dragons, tallying two four-point near falls against Dickinson State’s Jose Gonzalez. The sophomore would eventually work for a technical fall early in the second period to give MSUM five early points. Thomas Carrillo would carry on the momentum in the 133-pound match, collecting over four minutes of riding time in a 9-1 major decision win.

Hayes and Baguma Put in Solid Efforts, Wolves Win Dual Over Dragons
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Hunter Hayes and Andre Baguma combined for 11 takedowns as the pair picked up wins for MSUM, but 20th-ranked Northern State defeated the Dragons in dual action, 29-8.
Clayson Mele opened the dual for the Dragons, battling Northern State’s Landen Fischer. Mele scored two takedowns and four escapes, but was unable to collect two takedowns to pull even with Fischer. The sophomore fell in the match 12-8.
Hunter Hayes got MSUM its first victory of the dual at 141 pounds thanks to four takedowns and an escape. Hayes collected over two minutes of riding time to put together a 10-1 major decision victory over Robert Coyle.
