St. Cloud State Advances to Semifinal Showdown at NWCA Duals

Des Moines, Iowa – The #5 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (7-0, 0-0 NSIC) has advanced to the semifinal round of the 2014 NWCA Division II National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa. The Huskies moved ahead in the tournament thanks to a 32-6 win over Colorado State-Pueblo in the first round and a 37-3 victory over #7 Kutztown in the tournament quarterfinals on Jan. 11.

The two victories place the Huskies in a semifinal showdown against top seed and number one ranked Notre Dame College of Ohio on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. Notre Dame advanced to Sunday’s match with a 33-3 win over UW-Parkside and a 36-6 win over Ouachita Baptist on Jan. 11.

Kasprick Closes Out Opening-Day Wins At NWCA National Duals

DES MOINES, Iowa —The Yankees had Mariano Rivera, the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox had Jonathan Papelbon and No.6-ranked Concordia has Cody Kasprick. The Cobber closer finished off both team wins for Concordia on the opening day of the NWCA Division III National Duals.

Kasprick posted falls in both matches at 285 in Concordia’s wins over nationally ranked opponents UW-La Crosse and Wabash (Ind.). Kasprick won the match against No.11-ranked UW-La Crosse after the team score was tied at 16-16 heading into the final bout. He then pinned his opponent to seal the Cobbers’ 22-13 win over No.3-ranked Wabash.

Strong Competition Hands SJU a 1-2 Record at National Duals

DES MOINES, Iowa – No. 22 Saint John’s went 1-2 at the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals on Saturday, Jan. 11, in Des Moines, Iowa. Both losses were to top-five programs.

SJU (7-8 dual record) started the day with a 27-12 loss to No. 5 Wilkes (Pa.) and defeated Centenary (N.J.) 27-23 before ending the day, and the dual tournament, with a 21-19 loss to No. 3 Wabash (Ind.).

Johnnie Grapplers Set for This Weekend’s National Duals

No. 22 Saint John’s wrestling travels to Des Moines, Iowa, for the prestigious National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA)/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals this Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 11-12, at the Iowa Events Center. The Johnnies are scheduled to face No. 5 Wilkes (Pa.) at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by the winner/loser of Centenary (N.J.) and No. 4 Wisconsin-Whitewater at 1 p.m.

Augsburg to compete at National Duals this weekend

DES MOINES, Iowa — No. 2-ranked Augsburg College will compete at the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals, presented by Hibiclens and The Marines, this weekend at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Auggie action begins on Saturday at 11 a.m., as No. 2-seed Augsburg faces unranked Elmhurst (Ill.), and will face either No. 9-ranked Coe (Iowa) or No. 20-ranked Springfield (Mass.) on Saturday at 3 p.m. Action will continue both Saturday and Sunday, with the Division III championship match slated for Sunday at 3 p.m.

Draws released for NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals

Seventy-six college wrestling programs found out Wednesday the draws for the 2014 NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals presented by the United States Marine Corps and Hibiclens in honor of Cliff Keen.

St. Cloud State will put its 52-match win streak on the line at the Hyvee Hall in Des Moines, Iowa January 11-12. The Huskies are looking to win their third straight Division II championships, but they’ll be a slight underdog coming in.

Des Moines to host 2014 NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals on January 11-12

Seventy-six college wrestling teams will converge on Hyvee Hall in Des Moines, Iowa on January 11-12 for the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals presented by the United States Marine Corps and Hibiclens in honor of Cliff Keen.

Hyvee Hall, located next to the Wells Fargo Arena, hosted the NCAA Fan Fest at the 2013 NCAA Division I championships.
