Gable Steveson Selected as Mr. Wrestler MN 2018

Apple Valley senior, Gable Steveson, has been selected as the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association’s Mr. Wrestler MN for 2018. Steveson just wrapped up his fourth straight undefeated season with his fourth straight Class AAA State Title. The Eagle wrestler has not lost a high school match since the state finals of his 8th-grade year. That is a span of 173 consecutive wins. Trinity School at River Ridge, Waconia, and Willmar are top MWCA Academic Teams

Class AAA Willmar is the top MWCA State Academic Team, Trinity School at River Ridge leads Class A, and Waconia is champs in Class AA

Class AAA Academic Champion Willmar had an impressive 3.940 team grade point average to lead all teams that applied for the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches’ Association Team Academic Award in 2018. Class A Champion Trinity School at River Ridge had a 3.834 GPA and Class AA Champion Waconia turned in a 3.834 GPA. Congratulations to all three teams. Continue reading

Steffen, Traen, Springer, and Murray are MWCA Coaches of the Year

Every spring at tournament time coaches from each high school section vote for their respective Section Head and Assistant Coach of the Year. Head coach selections are then put on a ballot to be voted on by all coaches at the State Tournament for Class AAA, AA, and A Coach of the Year.

2018 State Coach of the Year selections are: Class A – Link Steffen of Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Class AA – Joe Traen of Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran (Awarded Posthumously), and Class AAA – Todd Springer/Lucas Murray of Anoka.

Chisago Lakes Coach Shawn Frederixon was voted President-Elect and will be MWCA President in 2019-2020. Next season’s MWCA President is Neil Jennissen of Cambridge-Isanti.
