Experimental Rules Designed To Limit Stalling Tactics Approved

Two Of The Rules Will Be Applied For The 2014-15 Season, While Two Others Will Be Used At Only One Wrestling Event.

The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel on Wednesday approved four experimental rules in wrestling, including two that will be exclusively used at the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic Nov. 1 at the University of Pennsylvania.

The first experimental rule that will be implemented for the 2014-15 season focuses on a wrestler who is in an offensive position and locks or holds an opponent’s leg or legs and does not breakdown the opponent, execute an offensive move or work back up to the upper body for five seconds. That offensive wrestler will be called for stalling.

NCAA proposes new team scoring component to determine wrestling team title

The NCAA has proposed a new method for determining team titles at Division I Wrestling Championships that would add a new team component in addition to the present method using points scored by individual wrestlers.

In its recommendation put forward earlier this month, as of the 2016 NCAAs, the team champion will be determined by a combination of points earned by individuals during the NCAA championships (what the NCAA refers to as “the individual component”) as well as team points earned through what is called a “team component” or a “dual team competition component.” Continue reading at www.examiner.com

NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee proposes three new experimental rules pending approval

The NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee recommended three experimental rules, including two that involve stalling, be implemented at the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic Nov. 1 at the University of Pennsylvania.

The committee met this month in Indianapolis. All rules proposals, including rules used on an experimental basis, must be approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel, which is scheduled to discuss wrestling recommendations during a conference call June 25.

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has released the updated standings for the 2014 NCAA Most Dominant Wrestler Awards, in addition to standings for the most falls and tech falls within Division I. These awards will be presented in March at the NCAA Wrestling Championships. The standings only include matches between wrestlers in Division I.
