Eleven NDSU Wrestlers to Compete at Fargodome in World Team Trials Qualifier

FARGO, N.D. – Eleven wrestlers from North Dakota State University will compete in the USA Wrestling Last Chance World Team Trials Qualifier this Friday, July 16, at the Fargodome.

The event will be streamed live on FloWrestling and features men’s freestyle as well as women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman. Each champion qualifies for the 2021 World Team Trials.

Sykora Joining NDSU Wrestling Staff as Volunteer Assistant

FARGO, N.D. – Four-time NCAA qualifier Cam Sykora will join the North Dakota State University wrestling staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2021-22 season, head coach Roger Kish announced Tuesday, June 8.

Sykora, originally from Wheaton, Minn., qualified for the NCAA tournament at 133 pounds from 2017 to 2020. He was a three-time Big 12 Conference placewinner and North Dakota State’s first Big 12 champion in 2020.

Obenson Blanc Named Associate Head Coach for NDSU Wrestling

FARGO, N.D. – Obenson Blanc has been elevated to associate head coach of the North Dakota State University wrestling team for the 2021-22 season, head coach Roger Kish announced Wednesday, June 2.

Blanc has spent the past two seasons with the Bison program, which has crowned two Big 12 Conference champions and qualified 10 wrestlers for the NCAA championships while compiling a 17-7 dual meet record during his time.

NDSU’s Metz Wins U23 Greco-Roman National Championship

LINCOLN, Neb. – North Dakota State’s Brandon Metz won the United World Wrestling Under-23 Greco-Roman national championship Thursday, May 27, and earned a spot on Team USA for the U23 world championships this November in Belgrade, Serbia.

Metz, a two-time NCAA Division I championship qualifier from West Fargo, N.D., won all five of his matches in the 130kg weight class. He beat South Dakota State’s Spencer Trenary in the best-of-three championship with a first-round win by fall in 44 seconds and a 5-0 victory in the second round of championship matches.
