Reitmeier Named NSIC Wrestling Coach of the Year

BURNSVILLE, Minn.– Augustana wrestling head coach Jason Reitmeier has been named the NSIC Coach of the Year, announced by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference on Thursday morning.

Reitmeier led the Vikings to the most conference wins in his coaching career this season. In the conference, the Vikings finished 8-1 and were runners-up in the NSIC. The Vikings then finished second at the NCAA Division II Region V Championships.

No. 1 Joey Bianchini named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

St. Cloud, Minn. – No. 1 Joseph Bianchini has been named NSIC Wrestler of the Week following his tremendous effort at the North Country Open, dominating the Gold Division on his way to becoming one of 12 Open Champs. Bianchini pinned Cade Willis (Augsburg), Ryan Watts (NDSU) and Cade Lundeen (Concordia-Moorhead) in his first three matches, then earned a 10-4 decision over No. 2 (DIII) Sam Stuhl of Augsburg in the Finals to earn a North Country Open Title.

“Joey wrestled fantastic on Sunday,” said head coach Steve Costanzo. “I was very impressed with his attack ratio and his ability to go for the pin. He continues to make great strides day-after-day on a consistent basis.”

Huskies’ Muphy earns NSIC Wrestler of the Week honors

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State 174-pounder Dominic Murphy has been named NSIC Wrestler of the Week following his dominant start to the Huskies’ NSIC schedule, pinning No. 5 Job Ayala at 2:33 in Friday’s 37-3 win over UW-Parkside. Entering the bout ranked No. 10 in the NWCA poll, Murphy scored an opportunistic pin of Ayala in a battle with one of the Rangers’ top athletes.

“I am very proud of Dominic’s consistent work ethic and competitive spirit,” said head coach Steve Costanzo, “He strives every day to do his best both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat. He is very deserving of receiving NSIC wrestler of the week honors.”

Turriff Earns NSIC Elite 18 Award

Mankato, Minn. — Minnesota State’s Trevor Turriff was named the 2020-21 NSIC Elite 18 Award winner for wrestling.

Turriff joins Carah Drees (2021- WBB), Alex Goettl (2019 – FB), Amber Kral (2019 – SB), Maggie Knier (S&D 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20) and Erica Ellstrom (S&D 2016-17) as NSIC Elite 18 Award winners from Minnesota State.

As part of the NSIC 25th Anniversary celebration, the NSIC Elite 18 Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the NSIC Championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The NSIC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point from the regular season championship team or an All-NSIC performer.

Hunter Burnett Named NSIC Wrestler Of The Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — One day after defeating the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the country, sophomore Hunter Burnett has been named the NSIC Wrestler of the Week the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Ranked No. 9 himself, Burnett took the mat in the 149-pound bout in Sunday’s dual with No. 1 St. Cloud State. Across from him stood the Huskies’ Jake Barzowski, who currently ranks No. 1 in the 157 pound weight class.
