Cornell heads into NCAA championships atop NWCA Mid-Major Top 20

Manheim, Pennsylvania – After winning another EIWA championship, Cornell will head into the NCAA Division I Championships atop the final NWCA Mid-Major Top 20 released on Friday.

The Big Red of the Ivy League finished the dual meet season 12-3 and received all five first-place votes.

North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Northern Iowa and Appalachian State finished out their dual seasons ranked in the top five of the Mid-Major poll.

Cornell remains atop NWCA Mid-Major Top 20

Manheim, Pennsylvania – Cornell, ranked in the top five nationally in the most recent NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll, remains atop the second NWCA Mid-Major Poll released on Friday. The Big Red are 9-2 on the season and are one of four Ivy League schools in the Top 20.

Three Big 12 affiliates – North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, and South Dakota State hold down the next three positions, while Appalachian State comes in fifth. Columbia from the Ivy League and Chattanooga from the Southern Conference break into the rankings this week for the first time this season.

NWCA releases Mid-Major Top 20 Poll

Manheim, Pennsylvania — The National Wrestling Coaches Association released its first Mid-Major Top 20 of the season on Thursday. Formulated in 2017, the Mid-Major Top 20 concentrates on the programs that fall outside of the traditional “Power 5” conferences.

The EIWA conference dominated the top 5 with four of the top five teams led by Lehigh which was ranked first. Northern Iowa was right behind the Mountain Hawks in the second position. Princeton, which just won its first Ivy League Championship since 1986 fell into the third spot. The Tigers had a win in November over Lehigh.
