Jackrabbit wrestlers honored by NWCA

MANHEIM, Pa. — Eight South Dakota State wrestlers earned Scholar All-American honors and the Jackrabbits finished 10th in the nation for team grade-point average among Division I squads in year-end academic awards presented by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Five Bison Wrestlers, Team Receive NWCA Scholar All-America Honors

MANHEIM, Pa. – North Dakota State Wrestling had five student-athletes recognized with Scholar All-America individual awards by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, while the program picked up a team award in the announcement by the NWCA.

The Bison program was named a 2023 Division I Men’s Team Scholar All-American team after recording the eighth-best team GPA this season, posting a 4.713. It’s the 11th time in the Division I era that the Bison have scooped up the honor, including a third-straight season.

Senior Jared Franek, the two-time reigning NCAA Elite 90 award winner, headlines a list of five Bison to be named to the 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Individual Scholar All-Americans. Franek, working towards his Masters of Business Administration, becomes a four-time recipient of the award, joining Clayton Ream as the only other Bison to be a four-time recipient.

NWCA Announces 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Scholar All-American Awards

Manheim, PA – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced the complete list of honorees for the 2022-2023 Scholar All-America Team and Individual Awards for Division I. This year, 291 wrestlers from 73 institutions were recognized for their academic achievements and commitment to the sport of wrestling.

The team award was won by Drexel University, which finished with an impressive 3.6117 GPA, followed by Cleveland State (3.5465) and Wisconsin (3.5197).

The individual awards were led by Harvard, Minnesota, Ohio State, and South Dakota State, with each school having eight Scholar All-American selections. Drexel, Missouri, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Penn, and Wisconsin each had seven honorees.

NWCA Announces 2023 NCAA Women’s Scholar All-American Awards

Manheim, PA – On Friday morning, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the recipients of the 2022-23 Scholar All-America Team and Individual awards for the NCAA Women’s Division. The distinguished accolade was granted to 134 individuals from 31 highly regarded institutions.

North Central College emerged as the top performer in the team category, boasting an outstanding 3.798 GPA, followed by Adrian College with a 3.672 and Colorado Mesa University with a 3.635.

In addition, North Central secured the highest number of individual honorees with 15 Scholar All-American selections, trailed by Colorado Mesa with 12 and King with 11 honorees.

NWCA Announces the 2023 NJCAA Men’s Scholar All-America Awards

Manheim, PA – The NWCA has announced the 2022-23 Scholar All-America Team and Individual Honorees for the NJCAA Men’s Division, with 48 individuals from 17 institutions receiving awards.

“It is an absolute honor to recognize these outstanding student-athletes for their incredible accomplishments,” said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. “These wrestlers have demonstrated an unwavering dedication to both their academic and athletic pursuits, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements.”

Itasca Community College secured the top spot in the team race with a 3.75 GPA, followed by Pratt with a 3.585 and Iowa Western with a 3.35.

SMSU honored by NWCA for outstanding work in the classroom

MANHEIM, Pa. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling team, along with three Mustang student-athletes, have been recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for success in the classroom during the 2022-23 season.

The SMSU wrestling team posted a GPA of 3.166, which ranks No. 19 in the country, while Nye Becker, Sean Howk, and Jace Paplow have been named National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II Scholar All-Americans.

In order to qualify for the NCAA Division II Scholar All-America Team, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale and compete in a minimum of four dates of competition.
