Three Johnnies Achieve NWCA Scholar All-America Honors

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Three Saint John’s University wrestling student-athletes received National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America distinction May 6: Junior Jacob Scherber (Buffalo, Minn.), a biology major (pre-physical therapy emphasis) with a 3.96 GPA; Sophomore Logan Edwards (Prior Lake, Minn.), a theology and psychology double-major with a 3.83 GPA; and Sophomore Carter Entinger (Montrose, Minn./Watertown-Mayer), a physics major (pre-engineering emphasis) with a 3.80 GPA.

SJU has now produced 29 Scholar All-Americans over the last 13 seasons.

Cobbers have Eight NWCA Scholar All-Americans

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Concordia had eight individuals earn National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American honors. Jacob Arends, Tyler Bents, Benjamin Bogart, Connor Chloupek, Kellen Schauer, Alex Skaare, Bret Wilson and Gabe Zierden all received the academic honor handed out by the NWCA.

Schauer, Skaare and Zierden all earn NWCA All-American honors for the second straight season.

St. Cloud State wrestlers earn NWCA academic honors for 2019-20

A total of nine student-athletes from the St. Cloud State University wrestling team were named to the 2019-20 NWCA Division II Scholar All-America team.

This group included NCAA national qualifiers junior Jake Barzowksi (Mount Prospect, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.), freshman Joey Bianchini (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Immaculate Conception H.S.), senior Kolton Eischens (Pierz, Minn./Healy H.S.), junior Devin FitzPatrick (Mahtomedi, Minn./H.S.), sophomore Noah Ryan (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville H.S.) and sophomore Garrett Vos (Bonifacius, Minn./Waconia H.S.) along with sophomore Devin Donovan (Wheaton, Ill./North H.S.), junior Adam Hedin (Rosemount, Minn./H.S.) and freshman Brock Schlough (Menomonie, Wisc./Boyceville H.S.).

A total of 267 student-athletes from 49 institutions nation-wide were honored in 2019-20. In order for a student-athlete to be recognized with this award, they must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.2 for those who have qualified for the 2020 NCAA DII wrestling championships. The athletes must have also competed in a minimum of five dates of competition.

Augustana Wrestling Tabbed Fifth in NWCA Scholar All-America Rankings

MANHEIM, Penn. — The awards keep rolling in for the Augustana wrestling team after a fantastic 2019-20 campaign that featured a second-place finish in the NSIC standings and saw three wrestlers qualify for nationals. This time, the Vikings are being honored in the classroom, with the fifth-best team GPA in the country (3.336) which earned the Vikings NWCA Division II Scholar All-America honors the NWCA announced Monday afternoon.

SJU Duo Earns Third NWCA All-America Scholar Honor

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Two Saint John’s University wrestling student-athletes, Noah Becker (Browerville, Minn.) and Jerod Novak (Aitkin, Minn.), earned their third National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-America honor this week.

The NWCA All-America Scholar award is the third consecutive for Becker, while Novak achieved the distinction for the third time as well (last season and as a freshman in 2016-17).

To be eligible for Scholar All-America distinction, a student-athlete must carry a GPA of at least 3.20 (cumulative or last academic year), have a .500 match record or better and meet one of the three criteria: qualify for the NCAA Championships; place in the top eight at the NCAA regional and wrestle in 50 percent of the scheduled dates; or achieve a .665 winning percentage or better and wrestle in 50 percent of the scheduled dates.
