Kerkvliet announces intention to wrestle at Penn State

What many assumed would happen since the day he left Ohio State’s wrestling program has finally happened: former cadet world freestyle champion Daniel Kerkvliet announced Thursday that he intends to wrestle at Penn State.

Kerkvliet announced his plans to transfer away from Ohio State just days before the start of the season, fresh after spending a week in Budapest at the U23 World Freestyle Championships with Penn State wrestlers Bo Nickal and Brady Berge, along with members of the Penn State coaching staff traveling to support their athletes on the U23 team.

It was apparently a fruitful recruiting trip for the Nittany Lions, as the trip appeared to precipitate the former No. 1 overall recruit’s decision to leave Ohio State and ultimately wrestle for Cael Sanderson. Ohio State alumnus Kyle Snyder is currently training at the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club in search of another Olympic title, and will be one of several world-class heavyweight training partners in the room with Kerkvliet. Guillotine Grapevine Podcast: Post-workout with Minnesota natives Brady Berge of Penn State and Griffin Parriott of Purdue

Wrestlers coming home from college and getting a workout in is nothing new. On Episode 37 of The Guillotine Grapevine, we head over to the new home for the PINnacle Wrestling School and visit with Minnesota natives Griffin Parriott and Brady Berge. The two are in town for the holidays and decided to get a workout in before they compete at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships.

Here’s the thing — Parriott’s wrestling at Purdue and Berge at Penn State. While Parriott is in the starting lineup this season for the Boilermaker, Berge is redshirting. Both have spent considerable time growing up in the PINnacle room and they talk about the recruiting process coming out of high school, opting to go somewhere other than Minnesota, their respective college atmospheres and the dynamic of their schools compared to their high schools.

Junior World Champion Mark Hall featured on Episode 53 of USA Wrestling Bonus Points Podcast

bp53_markhall740x400Episode 53 of the USA Wrestling Bonus Points podcast features 2016 Junior World champion in men’s freestyle wrestling Mark Hall.

The 19-year-old Hall won men’s freestyle gold for the U.S. at the 2016 Junior World Championships in Macon, France with a remarkable performance at 74 kg/163 lbs.

Hall won five matches over the top Junior wrestlers in the World to win his first Junior crown. Two of Hall’s five wins came by technical fall with one other coming by pin.
